“Very relaxing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2014

We enjoyed a lovely two nights at the Old Rectory and found the owners extremely welcoming and very helpful. Our room was very spacious and quiet and we appreciated all the little touches like afternoon tea on arrival, sherry, chocolates and homemade cookies in our room. Breakfast was superb with plenty of choice. The dogs deserve a mention, as they too are very friendly!

Four of us stayed here as part of a UK cycling adventure. Everything about the place was really well thought out and of a high standard. We arrived quite late and flustered but they didn't mind. We paid extra for supper which must be done too. We only stayed one night as we had to continue our trip but we will return in the future and are looking forward to it! The only negative for us was finding the place, but it would probably be much easier in a car than on a bicycle.

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at The Old Rectory even though it was short. We are perfectly placed for walking, cycling or riding holidays situated on just off The Jack Mytton bridleway and the Shropshire Way footpath.
We can be difficult to find if you rely on sat nav, but there are good directions on our website and the good old OS map works well too.
Please do come again we would love to see you!

We stayed at The Old Rectory on our way to Wales last August. We only stayed for one night but it was wonderful. The house is situated in a very peaceful location with beautiful gardens and the whole place is fantastic. We stayed in the Green Room which was gorgeous. Huge big room with large windows overlooking the garden. Very comfortable bed and luxurious bedding. Lovely big shower in the bathroom. Lots of little extras like the cookies, bathrobes and slippers. Izzy was such a good host and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting her and staying in her beautiful house. When we arrived we were treated to homemade scones and tea out in the garden which was a lovely treat. Then the two very friendly dogs (I'm so sorry - I've forgotten their names) kindly took us for a walk through the gardens which was great fun.

Izzy recommended a couple of nearby restaurants for that evening and we went to The Clive which is definitely worth a visit.

Breakfast was plentiful and delicious and although we were only there for one night we didn't feel that we were made to rush off first thing - we spent a nice relaxing morning reading the papers in the lounge. All in all we were made to feel very welcome and highly recommend it - I only wish we could have stayed a bit longer.

Tarmac and Bella enjoyed meeting you too! As I am writing this response in the depths of winter with the endless, endless rain it seems a very long time since those lovely long days we had in August. But we're so glad you enjoyed you're short stay - please do come again when you're passing.

Everything at The Old Rectory is done very well - decor, hospitality, bedding, bathroom, friendly hosts, and a breakfast of the highest quality cooked with great skill. Great attention to details - such as freshly-squeezed juice, high-quality condiments and preserves (even Marmite 'XO'!), and good coffee.
Lots of very welcome touches, such as mulled wine and mince pies in the living room, bottled water and sherry in the bedroom (plus tea/coffee of course).
You can't fail but be impressed and delighted.

Room Tip: Yellow room is very nice and lower priced as it is smaller - though the bed is soft which may not su...

Thank you for lovely review and I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay with us in December. It had to be mulled wine and mince pokes so near Christmas didn't it. Do came and see us at another time of year too.

On the basis of reviews on trip adviser I booked this place for our 30th wedding anniversary road trip in July 2013. We stayed 2 nights in the green room and were made most welcome from the moment we arrived. The hotel only has a few rooms - 4 I think, could be wrong - but they are beautifully decorated in Georgian style and are well furnished. There is a welcome pack in the room, including some sherry, if I recall.
In the morning we had breakfast on the terrace overlooking the garden, accompanied by the owners' two dogs and several chickens which I loved. It was so relaxing we wanted to stay sitting there all day. The breakfast was fantastic, fresh fruit aplenty, wide range of cereals, croissants etc. I had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and my wife had haddock, both cooked superbly. I give this place 11 out of 10, fantastic, better than excellent!!!

We wanted to visit Ludlow for the Christmas Medaeval Fayre so we stayed last week for three nights in the Yellow Room.Everything said previously in other reviews is absolutely correct.Couldn't fault Izzy's home from home in any way. The room was immaculate and innumerable extras were provided -dressing gowns, slippers, three types of bottled water,chocs,sherry,home-made cookies & tea, coffee etc. A fridge on the landing with a flask of fresh milk for each room.
Our stay was more like visiting relatives in their beautifully appointed Georgian home.We went out to eat each evening (try the Boyne Arms nearby- excellent food) and came back to a bed warmed with furry hot water bottles ! A lovely thoughtful touch.
Breakfasts were huge with so much choice (even home made apple juice ) and served in the dining room- outside on the terrace the hens & ducks wandered around while Izzy's two dogs peered round the dining room door at us (they know they're not allowed in there).
We would love to visit in the Summer to appreciate the gardens and surroundings and think we would treat ourselves to the huge Green room which looked amazing.
Thank you Izzy and Andy for everything.
Rhona and Bill

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for the Green Room.

Stayed in The Yellow Room for just the one night. A gem is an understatement, quite probably the best B& B we have ever stayed in. Everything was so impressive from the arrival, hosting, facilities, accommodation until the super breakfast the following morning.

A must for a return in the not so distant future.
