This was our second trip to the Old Rectory . We first visited a year ago and my glowing review ended with ' we will be back ' so I couldn't think of a nicer birthday gift for my husband than a return trip this year.
It really is quite impossible to think how the experience of staying here could be improved ! The building is elegantly decorated throughout , the food delicious and the views beautiful . However ,it is all the extra little touches that make it so special such as the ' treats ' popped into your room ( crisps and flapjack hand wrapped and tied with ribbons ! ) and homemade cake provided in the drawing room at tea time for example . Everything is high quality from the exceptionally comfortable beds , fluffy towels and glorious powerful showers . We stayed in the Green Room this time which is very tastefully decorated and has a gorgeous period bathroom. The owners ,Izzy and Andy ,are extremely friendly and helpful.
Shropshire is a lovely unspoilt area and Ludlow must be one of England's most attractive towns.
What more can I say except book now ! You certainly won't regret it !

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely but the Green Room is biggest and has a generous bathroom. It also has two large windows overlooking the garden.

By far the best B&B I have ever stayed in. The Green bedroom outclassed most top level hotel rooms because it was soothing and sensibly arranged. A large, very comfortable room, huge bed (fresh pillows - I have dust-mite phobia), sofa with tv and sensible low table with no sharp edges, elegant tall windows overlooking a pretty garden with rolling fields and hills beyond. An excellent, very large, en-suite bathroom with another large window. Comfortably and elegantly furnished in keeping with the style of the very pretty 18th Century house, the room had good practical details, such as spacious his/her hanging space in an unfussy period wardrobe where the drawers did not stick and the doors shut properly! The location is especially quiet, the entrance to the property unassuming and therefore giving a sense of security. Effortless parking. Breakfast in the delightful dining room was top class. The family are welcoming, warm and generous.

Room Tip: I think the Green Room is their best room.

We had a wonderful night's stay at this B&B, I can't imagine how it could be bettered. Tea and homemade cake on arrival, relaxed and welcoming hosts, a beautiful room in a fantastic setting with views for miles over the hills, a delicious breakfast... it was all perfect! We stayed in the yellow room which was decorated to a really high standard with lots of lovely touches (including a little parcel of homemade flapjack tied with a ribbon!), slept on the comfiest bed and the shower and bath were heavenly. I even helped turn out the horses in the morning! Thank you very much, Izzy and Andy, for making our short stay so special. We hope to come back soon and have been recommending you to everyone!

We had read the very positive reviews on tripadvisor and wondered if they could all be true. They really are. We were celebrating a birthday with friends and had a truly excellent time - starting with the very warm welcome, fabulous and immaculate bedrooms, a charming house, delightful hosts and candles on the birthday cake which Izzy made us for afternoon tea. We had an first class dinner in the elegant dining room and superb breakfasts both mornings of our stay. Nothing was too much trouble and everything flowed smoothly. It is difficult to speak highly enough of the quality of the hosts and their care for their guests.
And a special mention to Karen the cider-maker who served breakfast and was a real delight to talk with.

Room Tip: As we were a party we took all three rooms and they were all splendid.

I have only one complaint about The Old Rectory. The price- it's too low.

The house is beautiful. The family are friendly, discrete, and helpful. The rooms are stunning, and filled with so many small touches that really make this feel different. From home made biscuits and a decanter of sherry in the bedrooms to a beautiful breakfast, everything has been thought of. I could gush about the great bathrooms, the comfortable beds, the lovely garden, the friendly dogs (who keep out of the dining room), the restaurant quality food... but I'll just say- GO.

Room Tip: They're all perfect.
