“A Fine Stay”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

I recently stayed here, on advice that it is the best place in Iqaluit. It was a good stay. The 'Frob', as the locals call it, is an average hotel (think Holiday Inn, Radisson etc.) with good amenities. The cost is high, but that is because most things are expensive there. My room was comfortable and fine, though I found it a bit too warm. I tried to sleep with the window open but that was hard with all the snowmobile sounds outside! Bathroom was well equipped though showing some wear and tear (a wobbly toilet, a hair dryer in its last days).

Staff are great here. There is a variety store and coffee/cafeteria-like shop on the main level (Caribrew Cafe). The food there was not great. However, there are two other restaurant options. The pub was fine (if you go ther on Wednesday it's wing night and very crowded). Note that, fter 8, there is no access via the hotel lobby; instead you go out front door of both places. The upscale restaurant, the Gallery, was excellent with great service. Overall prices are high but that reflects the cost of living in the north. I had a very tasty muskox meal. That said, the Gallery had a modest but very reasonably priced wine list.

Iqaluit is small so it's only a short walk or taxi ride to anywhere. The Frob is therefore in a fine location. Taxis routinely pull up so it's not hard to get around quickly.

I have no problem recommending this place and will likely stay again. Worth more like 3 1/2 stars.

I have always found the service at the Frobisher Inn to be good.. before now.. I frequently stay here but!!
When you pay beaucoup bucks for dinner and are constantly accosted by people selling crafts
you want to get change for the vending machine and are told they need the change for people buying cigarettes..try somewhere else!!!
Well next time I will try somewhere else to stay period..this place is not worth the hassle..
JUST NOT THAT GOOD!!!

Room Tip: Book somewhere else!!

Thank you for your comments..Guest concerns are always taken very seriously here at the Frobisher Inn, and the concern expressed below is no exception. Being told that change cannot be obtained from the Front Desk would be a unpleasant experience for any traveler, especially when they are trying to purchase a product from the establishments’ vending machine. Having said that, the Front Desk always maintains a sufficient cash/coin float to accommodate guest requests; like one mentioned. Situations like this may happen from time to time, and we are committed to ensuring they are not repeated.

With regards to the local artisans circulating through the Dining Room during service and offering their Art for sale. This has been a long tradition of the Frobisher Inn. The Frobisher Inn enjoys a special relationship with the local Inuit community and these artisans are respectful of the fine dining atmosphere, and many of our patrons enjoy this aspect of their dining experience.

Thank you for your comments, which give us an opportunity to improve..We hope you choose the Frobisher Inn again.

The professionalism of the staff, their friendliness and attentiveness, provides for a wonderful experience.I can't recall better anywhere. The dinner menu in the dining room is varied, the food and presentation are good.

Room Tip: Rooms facing south-west have a great view.

From what I heard from the taxi drivers, it is "the best" hotel to stay in Iqaluit. Per one of the other reviews, it is similar to the mid-level hotels you find in a city, but provides the cleanliness and comfort I was seeking. The staff was nice, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and there was a pool and gym. I enjoyed the coffee downstairs a the cafe, and the food at the hotel restaurant (Gallery) is known for it's quality. I agree as the food was better than I expected!

There is also a bar/grill attached to the hotel that some have told me is a great place for drinks, but I did not have the opportunity to try. My only complaint would be that the wireless internet reception was not very strong throughout the hotel and was inconsistent in my room.

Lastly, it has nothing to do with the hotel, but Fido does not have a partnered carrier up there, so was unable to call out on my cell phone.

Stayed while working in Iqaluit for a week. The rooms are spacious enough and the beds are very comfortable. Service was quite good. Free shuttle to the airport. The little café downstairs (Caribrew) served pretty decent coffee (although I wished it stayed open later and their muffins are like dense cake!). The restaurant at the hotel was very good. The rooms facing the Bay have beautiful views. Free (slow) Wi-Fi at the hotel. There is also a movie theater in the hotel if you have time to catch a flick!

The Frob is a great place to stay if you're in Iqaluit. It's very similar to the mid-level hotels your would find in the south. The town cinema and swimming pool are attached to the hotel complex. There's a bar (Storehouse) and restaurant attached to the hotel. The restaurant (Gallery) was very good. The bar is average.

Free Wi-fi in the rooms and in the coffee shop and restaurant. The hotel is situated close to just about everything in Iqaluit. You can easily walk to the museum, visitors centre, Northmart (like a Walmart)m, Royal Bank, CIBC, hospital, etc...

Room Tip: Opt for the room with Kitchenette. Also, make sure you ask for a non-smoking room on a non-smoking f...
