Stunning views, wonderful food and awesome staff/service made for an outstanding experience for my wife and I on our 25th anniversary. The restaurant staff knew their business. Their timing was impeccable and they looked after us very well without being fussy. The food was exquisite. Their Mediterranean Grilled Vegetable Stack was great to share as a starter (I'm glad I didn't order it just for myself...it was huge!). Who knew veggies could be so tasty? The Chicken Involtini was simply delicious and very nicely presented. It didn't hurt that as I looked up I saw grey whales surfacing barely a few hundred yards away. Altogether a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back!

husband and I booked this at travelzoo ,one of our winter hideaway weekends.it was very affordable. a fairly new place .we booked a forest side suite ,when we arrived for whatever reason we were upgraded to oceanfront. Dinner menu is limited but was very tasty.loved the view. pacific trail head is just out the door, easy trail following the coastline and weaves in and out of the forest.we had a great couple of days here.staff is excellent.suite was great,we were blessed with a wonderful sunny afternoon in late feb,so we napped on the small deck, with the sound of the surf and sea to lull us into a lazy afternoon.we have stopped in on occasion since for lunch as the oceanfront is so beautiful.

Room Tip: go oceanfront

Our stay here was wonderful. The room, more like suite, is very modern and comfortable, and overlooks beautiful ocean and trees. The setting is worth going, if nothing else. Staff were a hit and miss - some good, some terrible. My main complaint is with the food options. There is a fancy restaurant in the resort which is quite pricey. There is another area, much like a lounge, that serves drinks and food overlooking the water. The prices here are also very high, and the food that is served is certainly not worth the prices. The fish and chips is a huge rip off....don't bother. My advice - stay at this resort. It's beautiful. HOWEVER, take a little drive into town and pick up groceries and make your own meals. OR, visit some of the restaurants in town. The fish and chips in town are great, and are a decent value.

Dear Minowleaf,

Thank you so much for your review. I was so pleased to read that you enjoyed the modern and comfortable surroundings. You may be pleased to hear that we are working on a some in-room improvements over the winter to keep up our standards and increase the level of comfort for our valued guests.

I was disappointed to read that you felt for the price the food was not up to your standards. We do our best to keep our prices in-line with the local offering and keep a varied and locally sourced menu to ensure both value and quality. I am sorry that our offering did not meet your needs but pleased that you were able to utilize the kitchens for your daily dining.

Thank you... your Black Rock team!

The architecture of the hotel pleased us a lot. It fits well with the nature around. We were lucky enough to get a suite at the end of a wing, so we had windows on two sides and consequently the apartment was very bright. There was a hide-a-bed in the living room. The living area was spacious with a fireplace. The kitchen appliances were of good quality (Miele, Cuisinart, etc.) and everything you need to cook was there. The bedroom was rather small, but alright. The bathroom was equipped with a bath separate from the shower and you can heat the tiles when needed. Everything was spotless. No need for air conditioning since the weather in Ucluelet is rather cool. We didn't have any problems with noise and the people around were rather discreet. The price is high, but if you want to experience quality once in a while, it has a cost. We spent 3 nights and should have spent 4 since we didn't have the time to walk on all the trails available around (bring with you bear bells thoug). We didn't try the hotel restaurants but the menu for the main dish was between 26$ and 42$. The personnel was efficient and welcoming. To be short, we enjoyed our stay at the Black Rock and would go back any time.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a decent view, If you want a room with an ocean view you will have to pay more an...

We stayed in a 1 BR "Trail Suite" which was nicely furnished and had a luxurious bathroom but only a peek-a-boo view of the water. The main hotel and many of the regular hotel rooms are perched on the rocks above the ocean and have truly spectacular views that we mostly missed (although we didn't spend that much time in the hotel). The staff was very helpful and responsive. We planned a beach seafood boil picnic and they graciously offered us everything we needed for it but we ended up deciding it was too much hassle to find a nice beach spot for the fire so we ended up just making a great dinner in the unit.

Room Tip: get a room that directly overlooks the ocean

We have stayed here a couple of times before and chose the hotel for our wedding last week. The staff were outstanding and especially Candice and Katherine who were very patient with all of my questions and requests and ensured that everything went off with out a hitch!

We were in a one bedroom suite with the most amazing view and our guests were all blown away with the hotel (especially the bathrooms!) we had a small wedding but were treated with five star service. The spa was amazing and I would definitely recommend booking with Penny (who also saved the day and did my hair on my wedding day!)

If you're looking for an amazing location for a wedding then I would wholeheartedly recommend Black Rock and the event team.

Thank you for making our wedding day truly spectacular!

This resort has mix reviews mainly about the staff's lack of interest so I arrived here with a little reservation. This was heightened when we checked in. No one was at the front entrance when we arrived. We were not sure what to do so hubby hopped out and checked with front desk. They told him to unload everything. Then on actually checking in, we found out that our 2 bed adjoining trail suite was at the end of the complex and that we should drive there. After a long drive from Victoria with 4 young kids we were not happy. We informed them that we had asked and was told to unload all our luggage and now we find that we have to load everything back up again. The gentleman dealing with us was apologetic but the other front desk employee who told us to unload just carried on doing his own thing while standing right next to us. Not a word from him. Hmmm. We were given keys for one front door. On arriving at our room we found out that the connecting door to the other room was locked and that we hadn't been given the keys for that room. So we had to call back to the front desk and ask them to unlock the connecting door and keys for that room. All quickly dealt with but it left us feeling that they were not all that on ball with things.

However our stay thereafter was very enjoyable. We stayed in a trail suite as it is one of the few pet free rooms, since one of us has allergies to dog hair. The rooms were clean, well equipped and in good condition. There was a notice that stated very clearly that the rooms would only be cleaned on the 3rd day if the stay was for 5 days or more. This was fine as they do provide all the necessary items such as dish washing tablets, washing powder etc. If you need more they are happy to give more.

We had a ocean view and it was beautiful. However we were not able to sit on the balcony and enjoy it, like others have mentioned, mosquitoes can be a problem. We kept all windows shut.

We were planning to skip Fetch altogether as that also got mixed reviews. With 4 young kids we had planned to cook or eat in town. But one night it was late and I was feeling lazy. So we just pitched up and the staff were very pleasant and we got a table. The service and food were excellent. Kids got treats and the kids menu was very good. We were went again on our last night and again service and food were excellent.

Be warned though, their breakfast situation is very unpredictable. After a morning session at the gym, I wanted a latte but Fetch was not open. I was told 7.30 but when my husband went later after 8am, he discovered that the Sunday breakfast buffet was still not set up, 2 staff rushing around and very unhappy guests milling around.

Overall we did enjoy ourselves. Location is great. Rooms themselves are good. Fetch definitely worth a visit (just not for breakfast).
