“Feels like living in a big house”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 September 2013

Even though this guest lodge is a few streets away from town, chances are you would've driven here so it doesn't matter. The place is basically a new massive house divided into many big rooms with own private bathroom. There is also a large common area where you can play games or relax, like a massive living area of a new house. Unfortunately, you cannot cook anything in their common kitchen due to regulations.

Overpriced rooms, misleading & dishonest management who could not care less about having ruined our experience by sneaking in extra fees not previously disclosed despite my two phone calls weeks ahead to make sure I was planning for everything properly. When we complained we were simply told it was not their problem that we had missed the fine print and that they had no responsibility to point anything out. No integrity. Avoid this place at all cost!

Room Tip: Avoid - it's not worth the stress, just go to a real hotel instead.

We loved this place. We were there for a week and enjoyed the views of the harbour and the lagoon. We saw both because management inexplicably made us switch rooms half way through the week we were there (with RCI Vacations).
We tried to argue it, because we have little kids, and my elderly mother was with us, but they wouldn't budge. Also unfortunately, management worked irregular hours and were rarely on site to respond to requests. Luckily, we are pretty easy going people and managed without them.
Ucluelet is a gem. The ocean cruises are beautiful (we saw whales, seals, bald eagles, and a family of bears on a rocky beach) and the walks are too (a local told us how to get to one of Vancouver Island's oldest trees -- over 500 years old -- just off a logging road at the west end of Kennedy Lake) and we also climbed the nearby mountain, where we saw a young black bear. A bit nerve-wracking, but nothing came of it, and we were later told by a Parks Canada officer that there have been no bear attacks on Vancouver Island in many decades. Apparently the black bears on the Island have a different temperament than their mainland counterparts.
For the most part, I'd say the same about the Island people!
