“Best Place Yet In the Tofino/Uculet Area”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

We stayed in the Porthole cabin for 4 nights in late March and it is my new favourite place to stay in the Tofino/Uculet area. We misjudged our driving time and arrived hours early. Pennee said she had just finished cleaning the cottage and we were welcome to move in. She is a gracious host who obviously takes great pride in the cabins. Our cabin was beautiful, cozy and very romantic and I noticed many small touches such as candles to light, lots of clean towels, generous coffee/tea supplies and other amenities that were greatly appreciated. The cabin itself is beautifully designed and decorated for a fun relaxed coastal feel. The hot water on demand accommodated two in the double shower easily and the BBQ was great to use. The hot tub is perfectly maintained and always ready to use. The bed in the loft was very comfy with quality linens. I also loved the little crabs and shells lacquered into the plank flooring! The views from the large ocean facing windows are fantastic and there are several places for relaxing with morning coffee. The cooking/eating gear is well thought out for making meals. I think we made our best yet Scottish breakfast there!

We have stayed at various places in the area over the years including a very posh and expensive stay at a B&B and a night at the Wikaninnish Inn but I think these cabins better capture the fun and relaxing atmosphere I seek out and at a very reasonable price!

I have found that March is a great time to visit the area. Your cabin is at a reduced rate, it is perfect hiking temperature, surfing waves are great, and the Cove Hot Springs aren't insanely busy. Bring a raincoat, rain pants (Co-op in Uculet sells good ones at good price), comfortable rubber boots and a cap and you are set for any adventure here!

Room Tip: Either the Osprey or Porthole cabin (both are very similar) is perfect for a couple!

For over 10 years, during the month of February, my wife and I have escaped to what we believe is the best hideaway Vancouver Island has to offer - and it's only a few kilometers outside of Ucluelet. When our hectic city life starts to wear us down, we know we can look forward to the spectular beauty and peaceful tranquility of our home-away-from-home known as Point West Cottages.

Pennee and Gary have beautifully maintained these private cabins. They are gracious hosts who make sure your stay is comfortable while at the same time providing you with the privacy you crave. We have stayed in Porthole and in Osprey and both cabins are equal with regards to their warm, rustic ambiance.

If you come to stay, you'll never want to leave. This place is paradise.

Thanks Pennee and Gary!

We stayed in the Guest House (there are 4 distinct cottages). It is even better than the pictures look....very large cottage that could comfortably sleep 6 (two bedrooms and a pullout couch). It is unbelievably clean and Pennee took good care of us. Gave us helpful hints on where to go and explore.

The view from out hot tub, shoreline and deck was spectacular. We watched the tide go out and come in. Lots of deer and birds around. We didnt see any other wildlife in the inlet but it may be the time of year (October). There is nothing I could possibly complain about with this place. There are two guest houses closer to the shoreline and our cottage looks over one of the cottages below (gradual hill up to our cottage).

I preferred where we stayed because it is 2-3 KM outside Ucluelet. It was so quiet and peaceful. If you choose to stay closer to Ucluelet or in Ucluelet it definitely feels more busy and noisy even if you stay on the water.

Room Tip: If you dont mind your view of the harbour to have the roof of another cabin in front of you (it isnt...

We stayed in the Porthole cottage for 5 nights. It was clean with a loft and a hide a bed. It was wonderful to wake up in the morning and look out the window at the view of the water and wildlife on land and water. The kitchen was well stocked and the hosts were very accommodating. Pennee made us feel welcome from the very beginning. The BBQ was large and wonderful to cook dinner on. The hot tub felt so good after a full day of walking and sight seeing. We also had the joy of enjoying the stars as we soaked our weary body. If you stay here you will not be sorry.

We stayed for 3 days at the hilltop cottage with our family of 5.
The outside is not a big thing but what a surprise when entering the cottage. Huge with nice kitchen and especially a wonderfull master bed room with 'balcony' and a awesome view.
The hot tub at the terrace was heaven on earth . When you have the luck to see the full moon rising from the tub you will never forget this one.
So accomodation was top and would not hesitate to recommand but be aware of the climate. We were 3 days in the area and while the rest of the island had superb weather with 25 degrees and clar skies , in the coast area it stayed most of the time cloudy or foggy ( and this is not exceptional) but that could not ruin our stay at the wild pacific rim area which is lovely.
Stay between Tofino adn Ucluelet our in Ucluelet but avoid Tofin town. Afters 3 weeks of experiencing real nature in Canada, the overcrowded place that is recommanded in many books ( maybe long ago) of which i will remember only the smell of exhaust from cars was a huge dissapointment .

We stayed at the Hilltop Cottage for 5 nights in June and what a wonderful experience it was... The cottage itself has everything you need including a bbq at the front and a hot tub on the balcony at the back which is a excellent place to enjoy a cold beer whilst reliving all the memories from the day you've just enjoyed.
Everything including the cottage and gardens is very lean and well maintained and Pennee makes you feel so very welcome.
If you are ever lucky enough to visit Ucluelet this is a perfect place for a couple to stay.

Room Tip: View from the Hilltop Cottage are superb.

We have stayed in the Hilltop Cottage for 2 nights and we just LOVED it. The Hilltop Cottage itself is small but is quite spacious on the inside and has everything you need. The best thing, of course, is the hot tub. We loved sitting in it, enjoying the views. There is a barbecue at each cabin you can use for making dinner but there is also a small but full kitchen inside. The bathroom is not that big but has a shower, toilet and sink and is big enough for 2.
We found the owners to be very friendly and helpful. On the first night we already messed up the settings of the hot tub by pushing the buttons too fast and they were there within 10 minutes to fix it, and there weren't even mad or anything. You'll get a quick explanation about the hot tub when you arrive, and also about the tv and barbecue if you want to.
One downside: there was no internet in the cottage. But well, who needs internet if you can sit in a hot tub and enjoy an amazing view?
