“Nice view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2013

We were pleasantly surprised by this Resort. While check-in left much to be desired, we can't say too much as we all arrived at the same time from the ferry from Horseshoe Bay. We really appreciated the view, the jacuzzi on the deck, and the size of the room(more like a one bedroom apt.). Other guests were friendly.

Room:
Our room was lovely. We had a dining area, a living room, a kitchen, one bathroom, and one bedroom. It was a great size for us, even as a family of four. We loved the Jacuzzi on our balcony. We were able to cook meals in our room, which was a treat. (I suggest you go shopping at The Coop Marketplace which is located on the main road a bit past the road off to the resort) The kitchen has all the utensils and dishes you need to cook as well as full sized appliances. The room was very clean, although there was a slight smell when we walked in, but it wasn’t that big of a deal so we quickly adjusted.

Location & Surroundings:
The resort was very quiet and the view off our balcony was absolutely beautiful. We faced the mountains and the water. There is also a harbour on one side. We figured out that there is more to do in Ucluelet, rather than Tofino, such as hiking and the aquarium. There is also Pacific Rim National Park. Ucluelet also has more shops and restaurants.

Extras:
Our one complaint during our stay was the lack of available parking spaces in front of the rooms. One night we had to park quite a ways a way in the “general parking area”. While some of the problem is just a lack of spaces, it is also due to people’s poor parking jobs.

We took advantage of the complimentary kayaks that were offered. It was a lovely paddle around the inlet. We even saw some bears, as well as lots of starfish, jellyfish, and birds. They have two double kayaks and three or four single kayaks, so book yours the day before. They are given out on two hour time blocks.

You can also get books, movies, puzzles, board games, and bikes complimentary from the reception, but we did not use any of those services as we only stayed one night.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the inlet and mountains; we stayed in room 701

The resort was beautiful, the rooms were well equipped and modern. Our unit had a outdoor hot tub, fire, full kitchen, dining room, TV, sofa etc - It had everything you could want. The staff were all brilliant too and there is free parking on site and free internet connection. (only thing would be that the beds were a little too small)

You can even borrow movies, board games and jigsaw puzzles from the main reception for free which was great on rainy days (and both of our August days in Ucluelet were rainy!) You can also rent kayaks for up to 2 hours at a time for free - we decided to do this and give the organised tours a miss (and saved our self quite a bit of money!) we took the Kayaks out in the harbour right at the back of the hotel and apparently people see bears and all sorts of wildlife! We saw a few herons, an eagle and lots of star fish in the shallow water at the far side of the harbour (straight across and to the left of where the kayaks are kept) we also saw a couple of jelly fish!

So the resort was perfect, it's just the location wasn't that great - the town didn't seem too friendly and from what we gathered it seems to rain there all the time (as one local told us) we were there on 2 rainy days in August and the guy said it is the best he had seen it in weeks!

There is nothing in particular that would make me return to Ucluelet again, we did whale watching (but you can do that all around Vancouver Island) and the trails were OK, but nothing to rave about... I loved the resort but the area was just not as amazing as the other places we visited I guess. (Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise etc...)

Room Tip: I think all rooms have great views by the looks of it, we were in a bottom apartment (there are 3 st...

Our first unit (1002) was worn and smelled of curry. Carpets worn and stained. We moved to second unit (714) which did not smell of curry and carpets were better but still worn. It worked for us. We stay in Ucluelet every 2 years and will probably look at other choices next time.

Waters Edge in a wonderful place for a relaxing break. Our 2 bedroom apartment was very clean and well equipped. The kitchen was of a very high standard. Our rooms overlooked the sea and we enjoyed sitting in the hot tub on the balcony watching the wild life. We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed visiting Ucluelet and Tofino and walking in the Pacific Rim Park. There is no restaurant on site but there are plenty of places to eat in the local area. We found self catering very easy also with an excellent local supermarket. We took advantage of free kayak hire. Bicycles can also be hired for no charge. Free wifi was very popular with our children. We can highly recommend a break here.

We stayed here in July 2013. We arrived about 11pm and although reception was shut everything was organised with a number to call and keys in a keysafe. Good quality self catering apartments, ours was on 2 floors. The upstairs bedroom had en suite and there was another bathroom near the other bedroom. Fully equipped kitchen all clean. In the resort biking and kayaking were free, you had to book a slot. The resort is directly on the pacific but protected on the landward side of the peninsula, sea was very calm and views from our windows. Fabulous huge starfish and other small sea life visible on the shores, great for the kids. Ucluelet is smaller than Tofino (30 minutes by car) but has an aquarium and you can do whale watching tours from here too. We paid a little over $400 Canadian for 2 nights, good value.
