Our unit (Hummingbird #25) was large, with 2 bedrooms and a pullout couch, nice dining area, hot tub on the private deck, 2 big nice full baths with giant tubs. It was bunched together with other units in a big building, facing the cove, with the smaller individual cottages between us and the water. From the internet pictures I expected a more spread out affair, not everyone in a small area. Still very nice and quiet. You can hike the (easy) Wild Pacific Trail right from the compound. The (difficult) Pacific Rim Trail is nearby. Ucluelet itself is small and a bit funky. Tofino up the road is more developed. Don't miss Long Beach and Schooner Trail for short hikes.

This lovely resort truly is pet and people friendly! My cat loved watching the hummingbirds at the feeders all day long! The rustic charm and well appointed units are amazing.

There is a huge eagles nest in the tree right next to the office. While having my morning coffee I enjoyed watching the deer walking about munching grass.

You walk only a few steps to access the well groomed pathway that leads to the boardwalk platform to view the entire shoreline of the bay. The viewing areas on the boardwalk provide your own area to watch the waves break at the shore or see the whales right out in the bay.

The staff are wonderful, and answered my questions about how to get to the historic lighthouse from the Wild Pacific Trail.

Can't wait to go back and experience storm watching, hopefully this fall.

Thank you Terrace Beach Resorts - see you soon!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review.

Lorne and I, and all of our Staff - both in the Office and our really super, amazing group that have been with us forever "in the trenches", cannot express to you enough how much your kind words mean to all of us. We all walk around with silly grins when we hear such nice things about our Resort from someone such as yourself after you have stayed with us. You make all the hard work so rewarding.

Please come back to stay with us again.

We embarked on an 18 day road trip (with our dogs) from San Diego to Ucluelet in mid May - working our way through the Pacific Northwest along the way. Out of all of our stops, Ucluelet has become one of our new favorites mainly because of Terrace Beach Resort!

The pictures on the website are great, but they don't do it justice. The resort is beautiful - set on stilts along Terrace Beach surrounded by trees, and butting right up to the Wild Pacific Trail. We had a cold, foggy, and rainy drive across the island - when we arrived at 5pm it was about 40 degrees and windy. Since they new we would be arriving late, they had the lights and the fire on for us - we arrived to the most inviting cabin imaginable! When we stepped out on the living room balcony to take in the amazing (but chilly) view of the beach we were *so happy* to have such a warm and inviting place to settle into.

The cabin itself (#5 Amphitrite) was very well laid out and appointed - we didn't need 2 bedrooms for just the 2 of us (the smaller cabin was booked) - so we mainly utilized the 2nd (living room/kitchen/bathroom) and 3rd floor (bedroom/half bath/jacuzzi tub). The beds were firm, but comfy - and the jacuzzi tub on the 3rd floor with the view of Terrace Beach was spectacular! I waffled between getting a cabin with an outdoor jacuzzi on the deck - but considering how cold it was, watching the rain and wind through the trees from the comfort of your jacuzzi tub was the best choice!

The fact that they not only accept dogs but welcome them made this place that much more awesome! They give them a treat at check in, and have wash stations and dog towels available for cleaning them off after hikes. The cabins were very dog friendly with hardwood floors and leather couches - we didn't see any signs of previous dogs so the place was nice and clean.

The resident bald eagle's nest was right outside our door -and the path the the Wild Pacific Trail was about 20 feet away. We had two balcony's to enjoy - and the bottom story balcony had a private path down to the beach. We brought groceries with us, but did order Pizza from Romano's the first night - it was fast and surprisingly good.

Overall, our time in Ucluelet was the highlight of our trip and can't wait to be back!

I stayed at the Terrace Beach Resort in Ucluelet from May 27 to May 30th, 2010. Myself & Baggio, my Yellow Lab, were so fortunate to have been invited to witness my sister Mary & my now brother-in-law, Greg's wedding. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite, the Raven, & I must say I was immediately impressed with the decor (& every kitchen utensil you could think of). We met staff member Pat the first day & she was so friendly, helpful & informative. My dog went out to greet her & she welcomed him like he was a special guest (which of course made me love her all the more!). We also met Krista who was equally friendly & helpful! They immediately made us feel welcome. Right outside our suite there was a dog area which included fresh water & lots of fresh towels & doggie bags. Right beside the hotel is the entrance to the Wild Pacific Trail which is a fantastic 2.6 kilometer coastal/forest trail...unbelievably beautiful! The main attraction, of course, was the wedding. Since I was their only guest we needed one more person to witness the wedding. Not only did Pat volunteer to witness, she also took most of the pictures of the wedding, which was behind the hotel right on Terrace Beach. I cannot begin to describe how great this trip was...from the room itself, the ammenities, the staff and of course the wonderful location with the unbelievable views of the west coast. I would not hesitate in recommending that any one stay here at the Terrace Beach Hotel...thank you for making our stay all the more special! Krista also made quite an impression being so friendly & accommodating.

We stayed at Terrace Beach immediately following a wonderful stay at Pacific Sands in Tofino, so I must admit my review is colored by a comparison between the two properties and Tofino and Ucluelet more generally. We stayed in one of the hot tub/two bedroom units at Terrace Beach (Tidal Pool). The room was clean and well-maintained- but a bit dark and gloomy. The property is designed after a fishing village with lots levels and different orientations for the units. This obstructs some of the views and makes spending time on the deck outside the unit less attractive. By comparison, we had a great, unobstructed view of the ocean at Pacific Sands with a much bigger beach and lots of surf. The villa we rented at Pacific Sands was contemporary in its design, all glass on the side facing the ocean and full of light. This resulted in me never wanting to leave the deck and rooms at the Pacific Sands as opposed to spending little time gazing at the view from the deck or rooms at Terrace Beach. Terrace Beach has a resident bald eagle with a nest on property which was very interesting, and is literally steps from the Wild Pacific Trial, also very fine. Pacific Sands also has very nice trials and tide pools right outside your door. Neither property has dining, but both units had kitchens with the Pacific Sands kitchen being much better. If you are going out for dining in Ucluelet, Norword’s was very nice and Romano’s was OK for pizza, etc. Tofino had more and better choices. We particularly enjoyed sushi at Tough City Inn. The staff at Pacific Sands was great whereas it seemed the staff at Terrace Beach arrived late and left early. In addition, we were a bit put off by a laundry list of rules about hot tub use at Terrace Beach. We signed waivers about hot tub use, and noticed rules posted everywhere, threatening dire consequences if you used the hot tub at the wrong time or made too much noise while using it. This all became a big joke during our stay. And it did create a bit of an atmosphere of surveillance that was not in the spirit of a relaxing vacation or a service-oriented property.

We are very pleased to hear that this guest enjoyed both the Tofino and Ucluelet areas.

We are not contemporary in our design, as is so well pointed out on our website. We offer cozy, beautifully decorated and very well-equipped cabins and suites to our guests. Tidal Pool (Ocean View Loft #26) is neither dark nor gloomy, but warm and restful with a beautiful view off a very large deck out over Terrace Beach. We do not intend to even try to emulate or copy Pacific Sands or any other accommodation provider, for that matter. We are unique in what we offer, and are very proud of what we do. Our website has many pictures of Tidal Pool - both its view over the water and its interior, for all our guests to view in order to help them make up their minds as to whether or not this would suit their needs, before they book with us. We have a live web-cam on our website which very clearly shows our Terrace Beach, so why this guest would be surprised that it is not as big a beach, with lots of surf as at Pacific Sands, is a mystery.

Our Staff certainly does not arrive late and leave early. This comment, from this reviewer, is particularly troubling. Our Office is open from 10 am to 5 pm, and our Staff is most often at our Resort just after 9 am, and the Office Staff very often is still on-site until at leat 6 pm, if need be.

We are sorry that this guest was upset seeing our very, very few rules regarding the use of the hot tubs. They are simply common sense requests such as "please don't sit on the hot tub cover", "please do not use oils or bubble bath powders in the hot tubs", and "please do not leave children unattended while using the hot tub". The waiver that we ask guests to sign simply asks them to agree to use the hot tub at their own risk and to act responsibly.

There is absolutely no surveillance at our Resort. Guests are asked to please not use the hot tubs after 10 pm, simply to show consideration to our other guests staying near-by. We want all of our guests to have a relaxing vacation - not just the guests in our hot tub units. The only dire consequences that arise are when we get complaints from some of our guests that have been disturbed and kept awake by very inconsiderate guests in the hot tub units that feel they can party until the wee hours. I'm sorry that this reviewer apparently wanted to do that, but decided not to, simply because they saw our posted requests and suggestions regarding hot tub use.

We spent 3 nights here, with our children (2 & 3), and would have loved to stay longer. We were in Cabin #2, Morning Mist. The kitchen (with full size fridge) was fully equipped for making our own meals (inc. toaster, microwave, 2 burners on stove top, BBQ). We had a blast in the deck hot tub, with a perfect view of the water. Bathroom (with separate shower & bath) was very clean. Any of the staff we met were extremely friendly, and helpful with any questions we had. We even saw the resident eagles up close! The resort if very quiet, extremely serene, not for a partying crowd. The only drawback is the rocky beach, although beautiful and great for finding sea life, was a little too rocky for walking with toddlers. (Long Beach better for long walks). Would recommend the Ucluelet Acquarium for young families. Planning a return trip sometime soon. Thanks to all staff at TBR.
