“Charming and quiet getaway from the city!”
Reviewed 15 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

The name "Hidden Treasure" is a fitting name for this wonderful cottage. About 30 minute drive into Prince Edward County off Highway 401, you will arrive at this quiet cottage tucked away on a small street in the County. I had the privilege of staying here over a weekend (Friday through Sunday) with my family (parents, sister, and a dog). Diane was a great host throughout the whole experience, from reservation to check-out. She was responsive to the reservation request (took less than an hour) and she kept in touch throughout the day of the check-in to coordinate the time. When we had arrived, she had already arrived and had readied the cottage for our stay. Upon arrival, Diane showed my family around the cottage, and gave us a detailed breakdown of activities and various passes that we needed. She is a kind, friendly woman and we could not have asked for a better host!

Now the review for the cottage itself:

Upon arrival, the first impression of the cottage is that it is very well maintained. Front lawn hangs two comfortable hammocks from the apple tree, while 4 chairs sit on both sides of the front entrance, giving it a cozy look.

Inside, the bedrooms are as advertised and as seen in the pictures. There are two bedrooms on the main floor and two additional bedrooms in the basement. As you can read from other comments, the cottage does get hot in the summer (especially given the 14-day stretch that Ontario has faced in summer of 2016). However, there exists enough ceiling fans and other fans to stay relatively cool until the brisk evening / night air brings the house temperature down. The basement tends to be cooler than other rooms on the main floor and the two additional bedrooms in the basement would serve well in hot temperatures.

The backyard amenities include a fire pit (pity that we did not get to use it as there was a County-wide ban on fire due to dry climate), a BBQ, and a canoe that you can take down to the lake. The backyard is well maintained - the grass is cut clean and there was plenty of room for my dog to run around!

The access to lake is ~10 minute walk from the house following the path. There is no dock access to the lake, but you can walk straight in. Diane leaves couple of pairs of aqua-shoes, which came in handy as the entry point into the lake had lots of rocks. The canoe was a nice touch by Diane - it was tons of fun to take it out to the lake and watching my 10-month puppy swim for the first time!

Overall, the experience was fantastic. My family had been looking to escape the city for a weekend and we stumbled across this lovely vacation home. Hidden Treasure definitely begs another visit!

Liked best: The hosts, the free park passes, the wine passes, the beds
Liked least: Lack of fans, bugs, the smell, too far from the water, too close to the road.

“Hidden Treasure is truly a Heavenly experience.”

It was everything advertised and more. Diane was amazing friendly and humorous. The neighborhood is filled with the most friendly people which only adds to the great atmosphere and of course the unit was spacious, clean and comfortable. Extras such as the parking passes, board games, water, blankets, beach chairs and
mosquito traps were much appreciated. The view from the boat launch was beautiful, feeling the cool and refreshing water as the sun sets overhead. I will always remember this special trip as it served as the perfect setting for my unexpected and successful proposal my wonderful future bride :)
Thanks for keeping the secret Diane ;)
