“A wonderful place to stay and dine”
Reviewed 18 December 2009

We have stayed at the Merrill Inn a number of times. It is a really nice spot. The staff are wonderful.
We were there for the "Countylicious" dining package. The meal was wonderful with most of the menu from within Prince Edward County. We would recommend the restaurant to anyone who likes good food.
The inn is located within an easy walk to the shops of downtown Picton. It is a wonderful area of unique little shops. If you stay for more than one night there are some other nice restaurants close by.
The rooms are nicely done and have been upgraded. This is an historic property and the rooms so the history bery icely.

My husband and I decided to take a break and spend a couple of days in Prince Edward County. The Countylicious food and wine event was taking place and the Merrill Inn offered a tempting package. We were warmly welcomed at the Inn which is a lovely old Victorian house in impeccable condition and with all kinds of beautiful wooden lace and interior finishings. It is not fusty or over-formal. Our room on the ground floor was elegant, spacious, comfortable and clean, The common living room is very pleasant and features a delightful doll house hand-made by the innkeepers over many years.

The meals, served in a smallish, modern, comfortable dining room were outstanding. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts and two excellent dinners over which we were able to taste almost the entire Countylicious menu. Everything was great. Special mention goes to the pickerel fritters, the tourtiere and the profiteroles with banana gelato. All this was accompanied by friendly, attentive, professional service.

Prince Edward County is interesting and picturesque, even in November, with its wineries, cheese factories, villages and the town of Picton with its lovely old houses and lively main street.

We're already planning a return visit.

The Merrill Inn in Picton, Ontario, has excellent cuisine, wonderful rooms, a warm and professional staff, and a beautiful location in small town Canada. It is not surprising that its 2 owners have had experience working in senior positions with some of the finest hotels and hotel chains in North America.

My new wife and I spent 3 nights at the Merrill Inn and quite enjoyed the experience. Edward and Amy were perfect hosts and the food was amazing. Our room was on the top floor at the front and was spacious and clean. If you are elderly, the stairs are steep from the second to third floor, so choose a first or second floor room. We visited a number of quaint villages in the area and enjoyed the wineries and galleries. We will definitely visit again and highly recommend this Inn to anyone traveling this area.

My spouse and I spent last Friday night November 6 at the Merrill Inn and not only enjoyed the great hospitality and warm ambience of the inn itself but was fortunate to also be there during "Countylious". The Inn was participating in this food event and we enjoyed a fantastic prix fixe meal that included the best "fritters" I have ever had! We were also in Picton during their fall arts show "Makers Hand" which represented several artists from not only this county but from other parts of the province.

Edward and his staff were extremely friendly and always willing to help. We will be back.

This was our third visit to the Merrill Inn - about two and a half to three hours drive from Toronto - wish it were closer - that's why it only got 4 stars for location. The Inn is a large old Victorian house, lovingly restored and beautifully furnished with antiques that are to live with, rather than museum pieces to be only looked at. The rooms are attractive with comfortable beds and are meticulously clean and welcoming. The public rooms are similar, with an elegant parlour and a snug smaller sunroom/sitting room opening off the vestibule where tea and cookies are available in the afternoon. The dining room is fairly small, but again beautifully furnished and provides some of the best meals one could wish for - the chef, Michael Sullivan is outstanding. The Innkeepers Edward and Amy Schubert and their staff are welcoming and helpful and do all they can to make one's stay enjoyable. We thoroughly recommend it.

We planned a weekend away with another couple to tour the wineries of Prince Edward County, and hoped to have a couple of good restaurant meals. Our package included 2 nights, one dinner ,2 full breakfasts and a picnic lunch. From the moment we checked in, we knew we were going to have a wonderful time. The innkeeper was very hospitable and professional and the staff friendly and most helpful.
The rooms were lovely, with many nice touches--magazines, toiletries and gingerbread cookies at the bedside. We chose a larger room with a sitting area, although we were equally comfortable enjoying our our complimentary tea and fresh cookies in the lounges in the afternoon.
Perhaps the food was the nicest surprise. On check-in, we made our choices for the picnic lunch the next day (mine was a chicken, sun-dried tomato and goat cheese baguette, veggies and blue cheese dip, cookies and Perrier). The breakfast buffet had a great selection of breads, muffins, croissants, fresh fruit and juices, cereals, yogurt, and cheeses. We also had pancakes one day and breakfast wrap the next. Dinner was excellent. The restaurant is small and was full for 2 sittings, so reserve ahead of time.
We all ordered something different, sampled each others’ and loved it all!
When we checked out, we received a sample of the chef’s cheese coins, recipe included. Again, a really nice touch.
We had lots of fun visiting wineries and had another excellent dinner at Harvest restaurant.
There is much to enjoy in Prince Edward County, and we are looking forward to our next stay at the Merrill Inn.
