“Not worth the money”
Reviewed 28 August 2007

The review dates back, but since I have benefited from TripAdvisor a lot recently I feel that I owe a review of this Inn. We stayed two nights just for a romantic getaway, but felt that it was not worth the price we paid. The inn and the rooms were clean, but there was nothing special about it, the surroundings were not great (no beautiful garden, no pool, no spa) and the service like in an ordinary bed and breakfast. I would suggest to look for a better place for the money!

This was our first time staying at the Merrill Inn. We are not victorian / Inn people..we like modern but prepared ourselves for "old". Check in was a breeze but upon learning our room was on the third floor were a bit put off that there was no help for bags...Thank goodness we both work out...The room was probably less than what we hoped for but after getting settled realized this is what you get with Victorian type lodgings...the owner/innkeeper Edward was very helpful and engaging. The "enhanced"continental breakfast offered for guests was outstanding. We saved dinner at the Inn for our last night as we had heard the chef Michael Sullivan from Toronto was outstanding. After the appetizer we were sorry we didn't eat here every night. Outstanding doesn't even come close to describing the dinner we experienced. It was so good in fact that we decided we could definitely come back to the Merrill Inn..we would just make sure we were either on the 1st or 2nd floor.

We spent our 25th anniversery at the Merrill Inn in Picton and had the most fantastic time. The chef is truly gifted. The dinner was outstanding. The duck was so tender it melted in our mouth. Our complementary breakfast was really nice on the terrace amongst tall trees and gorgeous gardens. The couple that run the Inn, Edward Shubert and his wife were quite lovely people. We really enjoyed the old Victorian architecture. Our third story bedroom was really spacious with a great view. After dinner we went for a walk to enjoy the grand homes and gardens of the area. It was our first time in an Inn as we usually stay in hotels, but this was a very romantic evening. We look forward to returning for our next anniversery.

The Food was ok, but not even close to what the innkeepers said it would be. The room was cozy but we were a little dissappointed after we toured the Clairmount Inn. Its obvious that we should have spent our weekend at the Clairmount and not the Merrill Inn ( better food, service and professionalism)

Very professional hosts with a lot of experience in the industry, but they do not distance themselves from you. Everything is taken care of. We had front room on ground floor - no noise from street.

My husband and I wanted a weekend away due to some health problems. So we booked a two night stay at Isiaah Tubbs resort in Picton. It was so dirty we refused to stay and so we moved at 7pm at night to the Merrill Inn where we where treated royally. They were kind, the sevice was excellent and above all we had a lovely clean!!!!! room. We had tea brought to us after we checked in and the house is a beauiful piece of history. The next evening we had a lovey dinner in their intimate restaurant, which they gave us a voucher to make up for the terrible experience we had at Isaiah Tubbs. They did everything possible to make our stay wonderful. So if you are heading to the Picton/Belleville/Trenton area you will not find a better place. They understand service unlike their unworthy competitors.

This historic Inn was beautiful, the rooms very pretty, romantic as if you stepped back in time. The hosts- a married couple were most gracious in sharing their home. Breakfast was included as well as a meal voucher or coupon for the provincial park where of course the amazing beaches of Sandbanks are the main attraction.
