“Very Enjoyable..!”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

Realising that Huddersfield has few decent hotels, I searched through the B&B listings and was impressed with the reviews on Ackroyd House. I phoned through to make a booking for just 1 night and spoke to Jayne who was very helpful and gave me quiet comfort in the knowledge that I was making the right decision booking their B&B instead of a local Hotel. I'm in the Hotel business myself and like my creature comforts and very rarely book B&B's - I should do more so from now on.

Following an arduous 4 hour car drive to Ackroyd House, we were quickly relieved that we had made the right choice. Andrew showed us to our rooms and gave us the low down on all that we needed to know. We had WiFi, Multi Channel TV, Toiletries, a good shower, a big bedroom, a proper decanter of sherry and great views. He pointed us to a local pub in the village The Rose & Crown, a 10 minute walk away which turned out to be a great evening with Richard the Owner.

More importantly, Jayne's breakfast has the X Factor. Go for the Full Yorkshire, you know its wrong but do it anyway, its not every day and Jayne does it really well - nearly as well as a Full Irish…!

You won't be disappointed, great bed, great room, nice people, full belly - why stay in a soulless 3 star chain when you can stay with real people…?

Room Tip: There are only two, both great and the top floor has the views.

This was our third trip to Ackroyd House, and were not disappointed. Having previously stayed in the Stable Room, we opted for the upstairs accommodation for our two nights, and enjoyed the wonderful views over the Holme Valley.
The whole experience is simply outstanding, from the rich yellow-yolked breakfast eggs produced by the "ladies" in their proper "free range" environment, to the 'home from home' welcome from Jayne.

We stayed bed and breakfast on Friday 7/3/14 and after a long drive we were welcomed by jane who was very chirpy and attentive.Jane showed us our room which was very clean and comfortable with amazing views over the hills. After giving us local directions and a torch (it was dark but we did'nt need it) she asked us what time we would require breakfast and let us settle in.We came down for breakfast at 9-00 and we were greeted by Andrew and he showed us to the table and pointed out the home made jams and locally sourced yogurts (which were delicious). Then our breakfast arrived which was full english complete with the tastiest eggs from their own very beautiful hens (according to my wife). The breakfast was really tasty and then Andrew showed me round outside and explained how they had built and extended the premises over the years and as we have said the views are magnificent. All in all a very friendly , clean and attentive hosts who serve wonderful food. many thanks.

Room Tip: Upstairs has the best views

I can't fault this B & B. We stayed for one night and wish we could have stayed longer. Beautifully furnished room, spotlessly clean and with truly amazing views. Huge choice of food on breakfast menu - tasty and freshly cooked. Andrew and Jayne were happy to share with us the history of their lovely home and Andrew took us on a tour of the garden - well worth going for the wonderful views. There were free range chickens in the garden and a happy, well-behaved dog (Snoop) who is always ready for a game if you are interested. (I'm sure he wouldn't make a nuisance of himself if you are not a dog lover) We couldn't have been made more welcome and can't wait to return, hopefully for longer and in better weather.

Room Tip: We stayed in The Valley Suite but I imagine the Stables Suite is very similar.

What can we say, Andrew & Jayne made our stay the best B&B stay we have ever had.
Comfy spacious rooms, excellent food and a real family atmosphere, including a bit of exercise in the lovely gardens with Snoop the dog and her ball.
Given the opportunity would love to stop here again.
Andrew and Jayne.... Thank you....Russell & Sheree

Stayed 1 night at Ackroyd House on new years eve.
We were greeted by the owner on arrival and helped with carrying luggage upstairs. The room was very spacious, nicely decorated, clean and with good views over countryside. Free hot drinks, port and bottles of water available. Comfortable bed and hot powerful shower. Good quality breakfast and very friendly owners who gave my partner a lift into Holmfirth where we had left our car after attending new years eve party the night before.
