A quick walk from the ferry dock and just beside the best cafe on the Island. Very good value and absolutely charming.

Three friends and I spent a glorious getaway on Grand Manan in late May and stayed at the Marathon Inn. From our welcome to our reluctant good-byes, we were treated with great kindness and good service. Each of our double rooms were large, and decorated with charming artifacts while avoiding clutter; so many B&Bs and inns overdo the bibelots so there is no where to put any of my own things. Breakfast was ample and tasty, served in a bright and spacious room with harbour views; coffee was on early for those of us who like mornings.
Jim seemed to be everywhere, always helpful with suggestions for dining etc.
A wonderful setting, a historical and comfortable inn and good value; they do it well.

Room Tip: Room 4 has a lovely view.

The Marathon Inn has been operating continuously as a hotel since the late 1800's and all that time, sea air and visitors has taken its toll on the place. While aesthetically the inn could be in better shape, the owners work hard to make everyone feel at home. In a recent visit, we were helped out in the following ways: A ride to and from the island airport when the lone island taxi was not in service, a quick and tasty meal in the hotel when the island's few restaurants ran out of food on a busy holiday weekend, and accommodating our desire for a harbour view room both nights of our stay. By and large, Grand Manan has no exceptional accommodations however Jim and Tina at the Marathon went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and help us out of a jam. That kind of service is not found in some of the finest hotels in the world! PS - Jim makes terrific coffee!

Room Tip: Harbour view rooms offer a nice breeze as well as good views of a busy small harbour. Room #5 has a...

We stayed at the Marathon Inn for a few nights in February 2011. The room we had was cosy and overlooked the harbour. The view was spectacular, and the hotel was charming. The breakfast was excellent, as was the morning coffee. We would stay again if we could.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the harbour, you won't be disapointed in the morning when the sun rises.

The rooms were exceedingly small, with poor quality beds and pillows. While this could be charming, the $150 a night was not. The hotel staff wasn't particularly welcoming, and deliberately steered business away from a local cafe (We needed a trail map, and were informed that only the museum carried them, which was closed for the holiday weekend. We found out later that the map was sold half a block away at a cafe.) Breakfast at the inn was disastrous- it was overpriced, took 45 minutes to bring to the table, and then arrived cold; water was asked for twice and not received, while guests were expected to refill their own coffee from a common carafe. We didn't bother to try dinner.

We enjoyed our stay here - the room was large and comfortable, the staff was very accommodating (brought a cot, let us check in early), and breakfast was very good. We'll definitely stay here again. The place has a lot of character; it's shabby in spots, but well-kept and very pleasant.Wish we could have stayed longer.

The place is very old, the floors slope and the windows are held open with window sticks but the Inn is spotless and the staff are wonderful. It is like taking a step back in time.
The food was so good the first night we decided to eat in all 3 nights and we weren't disappointed.
