We've stayed at Tsa Kwa Luten twice for 3-day getaways, and frequently for lunch or dinner on day trips since we live relatively closeby. Our most recent stay was in mid Sept. 2010. The location is spectacular, situated at the southern tip of Quadra Island, with unobstructed vistas southward down the Georgia Strait, and surrounded by evergreen forest. The king room was clean and spacious, the bed comfortable and we enjoyed not having a TV to distract us from our getaway. The staff were unfailingly courteous and helpful. We read, had naps, went for walks, watched the passing marine traffic, visited with other guests, and generally had a relaxing few days. That was all good.

The biggest disappointment for us was the food, since there has always been a high quality maintained in the past, and that's one of the main reasons we've chosen to return to Tsa Kwa Luten. Sadly, the food quality has taken a nosedive. We had to send one meal back to the kitchen, and were disappointed in and/or didn't finish several others. While some of the offerings were good, overall the food quality was mediocre.

When we returned home we took the time to write a letter to the General Manager and also the Head Chef, outlining specifically our areas of disappointment. We didn't even receive the courtesy of an acknowledgement. That sends the message that direct feedback from return customers isn't of much interest to the management. We were very sorry to see that, but now understand why our guest experience went downhill. We won't be returning, and will now find a different location for our getaways.

We enjoyed our 4 nights late September 2010. We had a sea front cabin with kichen, barbeque and hot tub. We cannot really comment on the main hotel facilities because we were denied their use by our fellow inconsiderate guests.
On the first evening we were advised not to use the restaurant until after 7:30 as a large party had booked in (rumoured to be 79 strong). Fair enough but then this group called "The Circle Of Love " set up for a singing session with full amplified back-up and whooping and hollering from the delegates until 9:30pm. We could not hear our server and had to point to the menu to give our order. We could not speak to each other or the people on the next table without shouting.
At breakfast we could not immediately get a table but whilst we waited the percussionist stated to practice his drum rolls and symbol clashes again amplified. The Circle Of Love obviously excluded their fellow guests from their loving.
We gave up then all contact with the main hotel. We purchased groceries and self catered from then on.
I am sure this would be a great hotel (in a great location) but not if you have to share it with The Circle Of Love. We met individual delegates and they seemed nice people but the organisers need to think abourt their obligations to the rest of society.I think the hotel should have warned us about this remembering we had booked the accommodation in October 2009.

Great views across the narrows to Cambell River

This hotel is exceptional in every way. Gorgeous views from every room, on peaceful Quadra Island. It has a focus on nature (no TVs) which we absolutely love. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Staff has always been welcoming and friendly, so it is, as the old cliche goes, like coming home, but home without the laundry or dishes. Many thanks to the We Wai Kai First Nation for sharing their land with us in the form of this exceptional, delicious retreat.

Made a last minute reservation for 2 nights post Labour Day. Signposts to the Lodge were ok in the daylight. Wouldn't like to have arrived after sunset. Don't rely on your GPS to find it! Lodge is on First Nations territory, 1100+ acres unspoiled land on southern tip of Quadra Island. Majestic main hall with expansive ocean views south. Restaurant seating has similar outlook. Rooms good. Excellent bed. No TV in rooms. Common room with satellite TV. Free open access internet. Restaurant good. Varied menu but no less expensive items for families. Service average. Front desk personel very good. Outdoor hot tub. European tourists lapping up Canadian hospitality. Overall excellent value.

The place was gorgeous, the common area and the restaurant were very nice too. But! When we entered our room (106) we were hit by a thick smell of sewage/drainage/septic. To repeat what our toddler said "Hooo it stinks in here!". We called the front desk and were told there was nothing they could do about it. It got slightly better after we had filled the tub up and drained it out. But still, our room stunk so bad you could taste it! We were also thinking that we could play with the little ones on the lawn by our rooms but again the septic area was right there and permeated everything. I would definitely stay away from the rooms and the end of the hallway by 106.
Also, there is no air condition which wouldn't normally bother me, but it was 35 degrees Celsius in our room and as there was no mosquito screen it wasn't great to leave the patio door open (although we did, or we would have suffocated between the stench and the heat).
The place has potential, the staff (except the front desk) were very helpful and friendly, but it needs a bit of upkeep. I wish I could give it a better rating but we paid a lot of money for smelling sewage, and the visit left us with a bad taste in our mouths (pun intended).

We enjoyed a mostly wonderful time at Tsa-Kwa-Luten Lodge on Quadra Island. The commons rooms is gorgeous, the lodging is comfortable, and the location is ideal. So first the good: The setting is inspired, at the southerly point of the island, next to the lighthouse. The area is home to eagles and other wildlife, as well as some nice hikes.

Now the bad: The housekeeping was mediocre.

And the ugly? Service at the restaurant was rude and abrasive (even though the food there is very, very good). At one point, we witnessed a waitress snapping at a busboy for not being fast enough -- though he was working quite diligently in my view. The same waitress was argumentative with members of my family at various times during our meal. This was far from relaxing - it was downright pathetic. We would never stand for such service in the big city... so why would we tolerate it at a presumably low-stress lodge? Tsa-Kwa-Luten will need to address this issue if it wants to be the go-to resort on Quadra Island in the future.
