“Charming Old Inn”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2012

Once you accept that you haven't signed up, nor are you paying for a 5 star resort and just relax, you may enjoy it. The Inn is reportedly over 100 years old and has some limitations but the bed is clean and comfortable, the bathroom is serviceable and clean and the food is good. The pub and especially the outdoor smokers patio is frequented by locals when they finish work ie about 5 pm and the staff is friendly and accommodating. If you get nice weather, which we did, the outdoor patio (non-smoking) off the dining room is great for breakfast or dinner as you can look over the marina and bay to the islands and the mainland.
If summer ever comes, the rooms may get a little warm as there is no AC, ceiling fan nor cross-ventilation.

Room Tip: Ask for Room 106 as it has direct access to the second floor sun deck with its viw over marina and b...

This Inn is a historic building set on the ocean front on Quadra Island. Wonderful staff, pet friendly, relaxed pub, fabulous food and great prices for the rooms. Can book the whole hotel for an event such as a party or wedding. Funky gift shop, camp site on the water and so much to explore. Food somewhat pricey but fabulous and plentiful. Some upstairs rooms have verandas to further enjoy your view. Three private cabins to choose from as well. These are set back from the water.

Room Tip: You definitely want a veranda if possible on the sunny side

I was born here when my parents owned it back in the 70's and went back as a teenager to see it. since then i've been a few times to stay and it's a great place. the restaurant has delicious food and good service. the pub has a really fun atmosphere and everyone i met there was super friendly and interesting. lots of stuff to do around there if you like nature and fishing. beautiful scenery. I'll be going back

We stayed in the cabins at the back of the property by the road and they did the job. They were not dirty but not overly clean. They were worn but not worn out.Dated but not trashy. They had a full kitchen and bbq on the deck etc.
We stayed for one night to go to a music event and dinner and we were told the in would be noisy to stay in.
They are not pretending to be a fancy resort but it is a unique place and the food and music were very good and a good time was had by all
Could be a good place for a stopover and for guys for a fishing base etc.
Nice view

My friend and I stayed at the HBI on a wildlife-and-hiking trip to Quadra Island, a package including two nights' stay and a day-trip wildlife tour. The hotel did not provide breakfast in the package, and the prices in the attached restaurant are silly. In general the hotel is fun and funky, in a gorgeous setting, but it needs refurbishment--the bad plumbing is excused by a little notice in the bathroom explaining that the hotel is over 100 years old. Well, I've stayed at many a much older hotel that was in much better shape than this place. Our room was extremely small, and we were kept awake by screams and thumps from the attached pub (were they dwarf-tossing, or what?) The island has loads of B&Bs that provide better value.

Room Tip: As far as possible from the pub!

Who knew that tucked away on a quiet corner of Quadra was a restaurant of this quality.
We had the Halibut and the boullibaise and it was the best we have ever had. The presentation was a "wow"

We are well travelled folks and are foodies, so this is a destination we will come back to.

We went with a group to do some hiking in the area. The lodge rooms were very small with no place to put your clothes. They were also over a pub and were quite noisy. The cabin we had was better and had 2 bedrooms but only one very small bathroom. There was no mirror anywhere but in the bathroom, so you had to line up to even put on makeup. The food was only just OK for breakfast and service was very slow. Dinner was burgers and fish & chips. No nice meals.
