“A dream come true!”
Reviewed 31 August 2013 via mobile

Kayaking in BC has been on the top of my bucket list for a long time, and I couldn't have picked a better group to do it with than Wildcoast.

The camp was spectacular, right next to the Michael Biggs Ecological Reserve - lots of opportunities to see the Orcas.
The cots were comfortable - way better than sleeping on the ground. Sleeping bag and a small camp pillow included, bring your own pillow if you are a light sleeper! Bathroom area was clean and well-cared for, as well as private. We didnt have an issue with the smell or cleanliness at all! Dining area was a great place to hang out, nice wood fire at night to keep us warm. Food was excellent, nice hot shower on the beach. The sauna and polar dip was a cool experience.
Our guides, Justin and Haley were amazing! Very knowledgable and extremely fun to hang out with.

We were extremely excited to see the orcas every day. We were also lucky enough to see dall's porpoise, white-sided dolphins, sea lions, bald eagles, and many of the cool ocean critters like jellies and sea stars.

We were 110% satisfied with everything about Orca Camp. Thanks again to Val, Damon, Justin and Haley for our lifechanging experience! Orca Camp was the perfect place to take in the worlds beauty and getaway for a little while. We will be back! ♥

“incredible experience”
Reviewed 25 August 2013

it was an outstanding trip, guides make or break kayak trips like this and our guides Justin and Haley were fantastic. The company has great customer service that starts with Valarie in their office and extends all through company. only two complaints they tell you they provide pillows BRING YOUR OWN they are tiny and frankly worthless and the bathroom smells and I mean it is up high and you can smell from the beach and it had flies.....other than that the camp is great and the food quite good. stay at Gowlland Harbor Resort and book with Wild Coast and you will have a great time

Hi airportcarrie n! Thanks for the review! I’m glad that you had a fantastic time, and Justin and Haley took good care of you :D I’m happy you enjoyed all the upgrades of Orca Camp, but sorry to hear the issues with the outdoor privy. We've made some immediate changes that ensure the air remains fresh! We'll also take into account your pillow comment and have extra available at camp for guests to double up, in addition to considering some future options for guests.

We strive to provide a top-notch experience so addressing your comments is a top priority. Thank you for your feedback, as it has resulted in fine-tuning the experience for our future guests! We're happy you had an incredible experience!

Warm regards, Wildcoast

“A terrific adventure”
Reviewed 25 August 2013

Our group had a wonderfully terrific adventure exploring the " Discovery Islands". Our guide, Justin, was absolutely terrific and very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. The meals were interesting, filling and very flavorful. The sleeping bags and tents all provided were top notch. First time kayaking but it was absolutely no trouble and length of day was expertly tailored to the group's fitness level. The phosphorescence at Freedom Point was a tremendous highlight. We enjoyed beach fires, great new friendships, clear skies with stars and meteorites. I highly recommend this company and this trip. Hard to imagine how it could be better!

“Kayaking and wildlife watching at OrcaCamp”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

I recently got back from four days at Wildcoast’s Orca Camp on Vancouver Island. The days were filled with wildlife encounters, great food, ocean kayaking, relaxation and lots of good times. Everything is provided for you as well as some luxuries like the hot shower and beach sauna. It was such a shame that there was a fire ban on while we visited so we couldn’t use the latter! The camp is very well set up with the main communal tent and deck, and I certainly appreciated the hot drinks and snacks that were always available. If you want more time to yourself, there are plenty of beautiful spots around camp (the stream, the beach, the huge cedar tree!) to enjoy some solitude.

We saw Orcas on our third day, during our lunch break after paddling across the Strait. Even with the 4km distance we could see the dorsal fins; imagine how big they were! Although our group was unlucky with Orcas, we saw plenty of other creatures to satisfy us, including Dall's porpoises, dolphins and lots of jumping salmon. The guides said on previous trips the local fishermen have offered the camp fresh salmon for dinner. We spotted porpoises from the beach, as well as on kayak trips. On our very last paddle we were surrounded by at least seven porpoises in the early morning fog: amazing! On every kayak trip our guides took every opportunity they could to show and tell us about the other local wildlife, including crabs, sea stars, jellyfish and sun stars. The kayak instruction was great, with everyone in our group (mixed ages and some absolute beginners included) able to complete the 12km paddle to Naka Point on the second day.

Wildlife isn’t the only highlight of Orca Camp; the location is pretty stunning too. The camp is fairly remote as there is no road access, and it is surprisingly private from the water too. There were gorgeous sunsets every night (sunset paddling available), but I personally enjoyed mornings even more, where the fog would slowly lift off the landscape and mountains. One tip I’d pass on is to definitely bring some warm clothes from the mornings, as it can take a bit of time for the sun to reach camp.

This trip can be as active or relaxing as you want. Either way, there is a still lot to see and experience at Orca Camp. The guides were great, kayaking highly enjoyable and the food was well worth looking forward to every day. Even if you don’t see Orcas at close range, you’re very likely to have a fantastic time regardless. It would be hard not to in a place like this!

Just back from an amazing 5-day kayaking/camping trip ("Discovery Islands"). Pretty much perfect - comfortable camping gear (all provided), nice small group of lovely people, great food, and the whole trip tailored to our fitness levels and interests.
