“Delightful retreat in the German forest”

This was an oasis of peace after a busy holiday in Berlin and Frankfurt; it is set in a river valley with hills and forests on every side. The apartment is large and comfortable and we were thrilled to have breakfast outdoors among the noises of the river and the birds. Monika, our hostess, was a mine of information about local attractions. We were within easy reach of Rheinland attractions such as Marksburg Castle and and the chairlift at Boppard and loved to explore the deep forests nearby. This is the heart of traditional Germany and we were surrounded by antique features and architecture. Our apartment was the ideal base to explore this beautiful countryside.

“Deep in the heart of the Rhine”

Monika was great to deal with, I contacted her very last minute about her property. As luck would have it our two day stay fit perfectly between her bookings - we were lucky.

Monika was very friendly, really calm and relaxed, and gave us some great suggestions about what to do, and where to eat!

The property was amazing, a three bedroom guesthouse in the middle of nature. Trees, a stream, goats, hiking trails, dead silence - I needed this. The kids had a blast too.

A few things to note if you're interested in this property.

1) It is away from it all - and that is a good thing for me - but if you want to be by the river or in the town then this is not your property (it's only a 5-10 minute drive though).

2) The third bedroom is a loft with very low ceilings, but the children had a lot of fun in the "clubhouse".

3) The house was furnished simply and comfortably - not luxury accommodations, but not rustic either. However the beds were of a higher quality than you get throughout most of Europe.

Anyways, I highly recommend this rental and wish I had more time to take in all of the charms - my children have already made plans to come back next year, so hopefully we'll be back!

“very homely little retreat”

I am very tempted to not write this review as it would be a pity the next time we would like to go and it would be booked, as we will certainly like to come back! :)

This place is very well situated, quietly away from all the noisy transport trains that run over the Rhine banks between hills and forest, but only a few minutes by car way from all the great castles and other tourist attractions this part of the Rhine has to offer.

The location is like a family house, basic but good and clearly managed with enthusiasm and care.

The garden is lovely we spend most of our time here. There is a little river for the kids to play in and enjoyed outside BBQ each evening. The owner Monika is a great host and prepared a very nice breakfast each morning.

Overall absolutely great value for money and highly recommended!

“Wonderful Retreat”

When traveling to one of the major German tourist attractions, you always risk to find yourself among hundreds of tourists and treated as such. Not so at Sauerweins Muehle. The beautiful setting with traditional German buildings in a beautiful Garden with lots of little corners to sit and relax invites to spend a weekend or much longer and to relax and enjoy,.
The place is perfectly clean, yet not steril, decorated with taste and heart.

On top of all that comes a wonderful host that assures that you feel welcome with lots of little gestures such as lighting lots of little candle lanterns along the way to your room when you come "home" late at night.

All in all, I would highly recommend this place for all people who want to be close to the local sightseeing attractions and yet enjoy some privacy and peace to relax.
