I have been to Bandon Dunes and would jump at the chance to go back, but when we heard about Cabot Links I thought why not give it a try.
First, I thought the course would be off on some peninsula or by itself so I was completely taken by surprise when boom there it was in the middle of town. This isn't bad because there are places that you could walk to when you want to take a break from golf. The check in for the rooms is right there next to the pro shop which is convenient. The rooms are clean but very simple but with great views of the course and the water. We upgraded to a deluxe so we had a balcony with two stools (I didn't get the stools concept).
The pro shop is attached to the hotel and the staff were extremely friendly. The bar/lounge is a few steps away and is on the smallish side but the 15th Club sandwich we had was out of this world. The upstairs dining room (Panorama) again is very simple but the view is beautiful. Food was ok. We also visited the Cabot House which just a stroll up the hill and enjoyed a tasty pizza and great beer as well as fun conversation.
We ventured to the Red Show Pub and were pleasantly surprised when many of the locals gathered and played their own instruments. Thank you to Jerry (spoon player) who recommended we stay and listen as it was a fabulous evening.
Now back to the golf, we enjoyed playing Cabot with its "links" style challenges. We also experienced waits on the course but I think that is because it is such a "local" course unlike Bandon that is a "destination" course. I believe the addition of the Cabot Cliffs which you can see in the distance will help as it will offer another option and maybe relieve the crowded play. It is a great walk with a lot of elevation changes and views from any hole with wind in your face and greens that will cause you to pull our hair out!
