“Always good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014 via mobile

I've been eating at The Anglers for many years and always have great service and food. I'm somewhat bemused by some of the negative comments made on tripadvisor . Why don't those who leave negative comments people try & run a pub!!
You can't please all the people all the time but in my experience the staff do try very hard and the food is on the whole good .
It's a pub nor a Michelin star restaurant !

“40th Birthday Bash at The Anglers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

The function room at the Anglers has amazing views over the river which adds to the overall effect, it was perfect for my wife's 40th Birthday Party.
What struck us was the flexibility of the staff in how we wanted the room set up and changes to the food they would serve. They were very accommodating from the outset, willing to go the extra mile to ensure we were happy and our guests were taken care of.
The actual event was a huge success and again, the staff were outstanding in their attitude and ability to make us and our guests feel welcome on the night itself, even though the pub downstairs was also very busy.
We would have no hesitation is recommeding the Anglers, worth checking out if you are planning a party or function of any type - your guests will love it!

“Nice setting shame about the poor quality food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

Menu looked good...... however, 2 x medallions of pork belly and a strange crispy pearl barley concoction was very disappointing. The fish was OK but little on the side for such a lot of money.

“Nice setting but food disappointing and expensive !”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

Had lunch at this pub which is in a lovely setting right by the river and lovely when the weather is good. However was very disappointed with the quality of the food which was not nearly as good as previous visits. We ordered scallops; mussels and a pear and walnut salad and the scallops were tiny or cut up and smothered in a cheesy sauce in a shell on a bed of salt !! very overpriced and tasteless. The mussels not too bad but after having wonderful moules mariner in Swanage a couple of weeks ago they didn't compare and again quite expensive. The salad was also mediocre no dressing etc so very disappointed with our lunch, not sure if I got a large wine it wasn't as large as most I have so I doubt we will be returning for a while, shame as the service was very good and a nice touch with complimentary bread with oil and balsamic..

“Good services marred by dreadful food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

We booked a Saturday evening, with no more than 20 people in the pub, and we were served quite possibly the worst food I have ever had. We order from the Tapas menu as the BBQ finishes at 5pm. We had deep fried whitebait, Asparagus in Ale Batter, BBQ Ribs and Fries. You will notice this is not a complicated choice!

The Ribs were stone cold. They are presented on a limp bit of lettuce in cold dish. Sent these straight back. They came back, scraped off the bone, microwaved which meant they were totally dry - Awful

The Asparagus with Ale Batter arrived. This was in fact deep fried asparagus. Asparagus was not cooked and the batter was soggy and tasteless.

I had high hopes for the fries! Oh dear - cold and limp.

The whitebait was the only thing of any worth.

There was no effort whatsoever to discount the bill. A cool £75 (which would have been more if I gave them a tip, which they did ask for when the bill came)

£75 for what only can be described as disgraceful - Monkeys could cook and present better food.

I felt so sorry for the serving staff who were cheerful and polite
