My walking group has used Ilam Bunkhouse twice now and we really like it. The bedrooms are what you would expect from a bunkhouse, basic but all you really need (you need own bedding). The lounge area and kitchen is all open plan and a great space. Kitchen has all you need if you wanted to self cater though we eat out locally in the evening.
What really makes this place special though is the Ilam estate where it is located. Impressive long drive when you arrive, Ilam Hall which is the larger YHA hostel is an impressive building next to the bunkhouse. Great views of the gardens, church and hills in the distance.
Hope to visit again sometime.
