“Great old pub”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

Stopped in here for lunch and a pint, oldie worldly, two fires going, bar upstairs. We loved it. I had a pint of Pedigree with white bait, soup for Susan my wife, well presented and more than adequate for a light lunch which tasted lovely. £10 cant be bad.

“Excellent for midweek business lunch”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

Had a midweek lunch with a colleague and was hugely impressed. Excellent range of food and a good selection of both alcoholic and soft drinks. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the meat we had, absolutely gorgeous.
The menu was reasonably priced too.

Highly recommended.

“Great Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 20 October 2013 via mobile

Have been a number of times before but this was our first Sunday lunch. We booked a couple of days before to ensure there was a table for the 8 of us. The bar is upstairs and there a few tables up there too but our table was downstairs. The pub is a traditional village pub serving traditional pub food - on Sunday the menu is more limited.

Most of us had one of the Sunday roasts - there was a choice of beef, turkey and pork which was served on the plate with roast and boiled potatoes, stuffing, yorkshires, etc and a separate dish of vegetables ( in our case broccoli, red cabbage and crushed root veg. The food was really tasty and so much better than any carvery style lunch you can get elsewhere.

We all had the apple crumble with custard for pudding which was great.

We all left full and content.

“Excellent Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

My wife and I and our two kids met up here for Sunday lunch with another couple and their children as it is about half way between our respective houses 35 minutes in opposite directions. We'd been once before and it was good, this time was excellent. The lovely weather played its part as we sat outside in the garden. Sunday roasts all round for the adults and children's portions of the same or burger and chips for the kids - all really nice. I had the roast pork - lots of it including crackling, fresh veg, roast 'taters, Yorkshire puddings, gravy, the works. Pedigree and San Miguel on tap - beautiful. The staff were very friendly and very helpful, particularly as we were seated quite a long way from the kitchens in the garden. The puddings were good too. All in all it was excellent value for money and we all really enjoyed it. We spent a good hour afterwards in the grounds of Sudbury Hall, where the kids had a thoroughly good time. Sudbury is a lovely little English village but you can't really go without acknowledging that the roar of the A50 is always there. Thoroughly recommend The Vernon and thanks to the staff for a good afternoon.

“real country pub with marston's pedigree too!!!”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

This really is a smashing pub located just opposite Sudbury hall. food is first class and really well priced. atmosphere is very typical country pub with scrub top tables stone floors. our food was cooked fresh and the staff were brilliant despite being short staffed. beer is to die for with Marston's pedigree in draft and just at the right temperature
