“Dreadful place”
Reviewed 20 February 2014 via mobile

I don't know where the previous reviewers visited but it was a different place to the one we walked into.

Unfriendly, cluttered and with half laid tables.

We decided to give it the benefit of the doubt only to be told that there was a 45 minute wait at least for food!!!! 45 minutes for 3 children's meal and the usual pub grub. There was no apology just a very rude statement from a rude barmaid.

This is on a Thursday afternoon.

“Warm welcoming coaching inn.”
Reviewed 15 February 2014

Popped in for a drink after being to Sudbury Hall on a miserable wet afternoon. Well kept real ales from the Marston's portfolio. Although we didn't eat the food looked excellent at a very reasonable price. We'll be back to sample the food.

“Such a warm welcome.....not!”
Reviewed 1 December 2013

My partner and I popped in to the Vernon Arms today for a quick drink on our way home. Nice pub from what we saw but it was let down by the frosty welcome we received from one of the barmaids in the bar on the first floor. No smile and quite sharp in her tone. In fact, I would say that serving us was far too much effort and she made it very obvious that she didn't want to be there. Needless to say, we didn't stay for another. Such a shame for what is otherwise, a good pub.

“Great old pub”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

Stopped in here for lunch and a pint, oldie worldly, two fires going, bar upstairs. We loved it. I had a pint of Pedigree with white bait, soup for Susan my wife, well presented and more than adequate for a light lunch which tasted lovely. £10 cant be bad.

“Excellent for midweek business lunch”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

Had a midweek lunch with a colleague and was hugely impressed. Excellent range of food and a good selection of both alcoholic and soft drinks. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the meat we had, absolutely gorgeous.
The menu was reasonably priced too.

Highly recommended.
