Stayed for 2 nights. On arrival room allocated had recently been painted so we were moved to another room. Room was clean and warm but more like the size of a single than a double. Agree that the walls are paper thin and the bathroom extractor very noisy. Good full english breakfast, friendly staff.

This traditional pub hotel is in a small quiet village. The atmosphere is good and home made food was excellent. Located on edge of Peak District it would make a good place to stay if touring the area. Room was clean and comfortable but fairly basic with old style small TV. Free wifi. Overall would recommend.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this lovely traditional inn. The most perfect location for getting away from it all. The hotel itself was clean and warm and just what you would expect from a building of this age. Breakfast was great and dinner was lovely and cooked well (homemade)! Only issue I have is the menu had very little choice and no vegetarian option due to this we only ate in the hotel 1 out of 3 evenings. We stayed in room 4 and right next to it is the loudest boiler I have ever heard from 6 in the morning until 11.30 at night which isnt helped by the walls being paper thin. Also the extractor fans in the bathrooms where a noisy nightmare!! The tv in the room was also very small. Alton towers is only 15mins away and a great place for exploring derbyshire and also the peaks. Other than the minor issues we would like to come back to this beautiful inn in the future.

we booked a table for 4 people on a saturday evening for 19.30pm
three times we ordered items of the menu only to be told, sorry we dont have any left which you dont expect to be told that early on a Saturday evening
the food we ordered wasnt that special then it arrived and was vastly overpriced for what it was
you dont expect to pay £9.50 for a spoonful of mash and peas with a half burnt steak & kidney pudding, alsothe steak was cooked wrong, we asked for it to be cooked well done but came out bleeding!!!
if your hungry or poor go elsewhere,

Booked in for a last minute stay at beginning of February, after visiting Alton Towers water park.

Had a lovely room, all renovated and clean, little toiletries etc, comfy bed. TV wasn't great but that's not what I was there for.
Friendly staff. Food in the restaurant is gorgeous, and breakfast wasn't bad either.
Enjoyed my stay here.

Only problem is booking.com was cheaper than the price I paid when I phoned them to book.

The dining room on the last Saturday before Christmas was surprisingly quiet - only a couple of tables taken.
Food was good served by a 'spirited' waitress.
Would have given a Good rating if there was one.
Will we return - probably yes, but there are other places with just as good food with more atmosphere.
