When you find a gem, you always judge any experience by that, I've not eaten anything since, thats surpassed the food at The Rose & Crown in Middle Mayfield. The place was recommended on a website and with it being a B&B, plus we love the Peak District, I chose the place to spend a cosy weekend and sample the delightful food last March 2013. It was also going to be the place where I proposed to my fiancee after 5 years together. She had no idea, but we were both blown away by Dan and Henriettas food, and I'm a fussy eater. Haddock fishcakes, Venison Pie which just melted in your mouth and the large homemade Bakewell Pie, I didn't want to go home. The accommodation is basic but very clean. For such a small village you could understand why it was always full on an evening, word spreads quickly, if you want to drop by for a meal I'd book in advance. The food is very reasonably priced, and take it from me, you won't be disappointed....Oh and by the way she said 'Yes'...we're hopefully going back to The Rose & Crown this summer on our Wedding Anniversary...its a 250 mile round trip but its worth it !!!
