“Small pub, big flavours”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Whilst camping in the area we were recommended the Red Lion. When we were finally able to find a car parking place ( parking in front of pub only) we were not disappointed. The food was delicious ( a very competent chef in the kitchen). Although my husband was a little disappointed with the landlady's response when he asked the waitress what the pie of the day was. She dutifully advised him that there was a choice of minted lamb or beef and ale. Interrupting her service the landlady pointed out that they had to get rid of the 2 servings of minted lamb pie before she was to offer the alternative. Not particularly good practice in front of customers we felt. We were served by a youngster learning how to wait on at tables. We understand everyone has to start somewhere but perhaps some initial training would have been appropriate. A little rough and ready but pleasant enough....not his fault! The decor of the pub was very pleasing and there were some nice touches in the ladies rest room. We understood there had been a flash flood that afternoon that had created a few problems for the landlady and she did apologise for her appearance which she didn't need to do but did give an explanation at least. (I'll leave that to your imagination though it wasn't wet suit and flippers!)
All in all the lovely food out weighed all else.....and we would return ......and we would recommend the pub to any of our friends and family and anyone visiting the area.

“Very good food.”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

Reasonably local for us but this was our first visit. Had been very impressed by other reviews. Only two other (of the eight) tables occupied. Very friendly, efficient waitress but not over-the-top. I had belly pork: my wife had sea bass. Both were very well cooked and nicely presented. A lady sitting next to us had fish and chips which looked delicious and she clearly thought it was first rate.
Selection of deserts was a little limited and I suspect may not have been cooked 'in-house' - very similar to items I've bought from supermarkets. Very reasonable prices. Certainly worth another visit.
