“Great holiday cottage...”
Reviewed 4 September 2017 for a stay in September 2017

A great holiday cottage to stay in for 4 adults and 2 children. Located well for exploring the Peak District and plenty to do in the local area. Its a large cottage with plenty of space for 6 people - very well equipped kitchen and also plenty of games and books for entertainment. Would highly recommend this cottage to others.

“Couldn't recommend this cottage more!”
Reviewed 30 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

This cottage is in a lovely rural area, which is a great base for walks (long & short) or drives to nearby towns or attractions. There is a nice pub a few doors down the road (The Red Lion), which serves food.

The hosts, John & Liz, are lovely and very welcoming, yet left us to do our own thing, which was great. I can imagine they would be very willing to help should you come into any difficulties or need help with something. They also provided a delicious welcome pack of wine and nibbles, which was a sweet surprise to find in the kitchen!

The cottage itself is wonderful! There were five adults in our group, but six would also fit very comfortably in this homely yet spacious cottage. The kitchen is very well equipped, and we managed to cook a full roast dinner with all the trimmings, alongside many other meals during our stay. There's a dining table in the kitchen, and also a separate dining room, so you are spoilt for choice with where to sit to eat. You also have the option of outside if the weather is kind, in the small but nice garden area.

The lounge is quite big, and full of DVDs, books and games to keep you entertained if it's rainy outside, or you fancy a night in. There's even a decent bluetooth speaker - John & Liz have thought of everything!

My only complaint would be the fact there's only one bathroom, however this didn't cause any problems during our stay, and is just a personal anxiety due to health issues. The bathroom itself is spotless, with a large shower cubicle and a gorgeous bath.

Upper Bank House is great - it is homely, clean, and well equipped, and we'd love to return sometime.

“Brilliant!”
Reviewed 2 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Gorgeous cottage. The owners are charming, helpful and very welcoming. The cottage is one of the best rentals we've ever stayed in - every mod con you could possibly wish for, stylish, comfortable and charming.
We would definitely recommend it and we are thinking of visiting again very soon.

“Exceptional!”
Reviewed 18 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

This property is truly exceptional! It is immaculate, with much thought having gone into it. It is amply big enough for 6 adults, with a kitchen that has everything needed- and more- for a truly comfortable stay. The bathroom is spacious with a large shower. The 'welcome pack' provided was very thoughtful of John and Liz.
Entertainment is also provided in the number of DVDs, games and books available, and the lounge will seat 6 adults with ease and in comfort. There is outdoor furniture provided so one can dine alfresco while watching the birds feeding. Bedrooms are spotless and comfortable.
We certainly would like to go back one day.

“Beautiful cottage”
Reviewed 26 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We have just returned from a weekend staying in this delightful cottage. It has been immaculately decorated and is comfortable and warm. The kitchen and bathroom have been beautifully modernised and everything has been thought of. On arrival there was a welcoming bottle of wine and some snacks which was a lovely touch.

There is a good pub in the village and the cottage is well situated for exploring the peak district. The large badger's sett across the road was an added bonus! All in all a very pleasant stay.

“Great cottage In a perfect location”
Reviewed 16 February 2016 for a stay in December 2015

The cottage was absolutely perfect for our family get together over Christmas in Derbyshire. The cottage was immaculately clean, spacious and was a real "home from home" for the 2 weeks we stayed over Christmas. It was the perfect base for us travelling from Texas, our (grown up) children coming from Sweden, London and Leicester. John & Liz were the perfect hosts, in even adding thoughtful christmas decorations to the cottage for our stay. It was wonderful. They even helped us prior to the stay, when we had messed up the booking; they're a truly lovely couple.

We're from Derbyshire originally, so we know the area, but that said Kniveton is a great little village on the edge of The Peak District, but near enough to Derby and Manchester. There's a couple of really good pubs - The Red Lion is about 75yds away and serves great food and even better beer!

We all loved the place and would happily stay again and recommend it to family and friends.

It was lovely to see you all John & Yvette, so pleased to hear that you and the family enjoyed your stay. It's a long way to come from Texas but it's good to know it was worth the effort! We do try our best to maintain the cottage to the highest possible standards so it's good to know we are succeeding. We'll hope you'll be able to return to us next time you visit England, Derbyshire is such a beautiful county. Thanks again and our very best wishes, John & Liz.

“The photographs don't do it justice - it's fantastic.”
Reviewed 12 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

My wife and I first came across an advert for this property in the RSPB Magazine, liked what we saw on the website and sent off an email to John requesting dates in September. He responded within an hour. He and his wife live next door and nothing is too much trouble to them. As you would expect, the place was spotless, both the kitchen and bathroom have recently been modernised, and all the rooms are tastefully decorated. Upper Bank House is ideally placed for exploring the Peak District. Chatsworth House is within 20 miles, Carsington Water (about 3 miles away) is a Severn Trent reservoir with leisure facilities, sailing, cycling, walking/running, 3 hides for bird watching – to name but a few. Ilam Park and Dovedale NT sites are less than 10 miles. Would we go again, yes we would – there is so much more to see and do, one week just wasn’t long enough.
