Excellent displays of Port Hardy history. And our little museum boasts the oldest known First Nations artifacts ever found on Vancouver Island!

“A must see!”

One very valuable asset to any community, no matter their size, is their local museum. And the Port Hardy Museum is proof of that. It is from learning of a community's past and seeing its present that you can get a glimpse of its future. Not only is the curator Jane Hutton a delight to visit with, but she is a great story teller of the area as well. Yes, the museum is small but well displayed and highly informative about the area I was visiting. Their collection is local which makes this museum so special. When I was there another visitor came in and leaned over to inform me, "that is from our family". When you are finished with the museum, don't leave without buying something from the well stocked gift shop.

“Small and fascinating!”

Although my visit was between temporary exhibits, I really enjoyed the more permanent parts of the collections and particularly the discussion with the curator, Ms. Jane Dutton - this is a gem and definitely worth a visit. In addition, their gift shop has an excellent range of books (adult and children), and locally-made jewellery and crafts. Admission by donation.

After your visit, head across the street to Café Guido for snacks - and more books and crafts!!!
