“Very Comfortable stay”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

When staying in this area you have to realise where you are and how remote you are from City life.If it's 5 star treatment, full tv channels etc. then you are in the wrong place. If on the other hand you want clean, comfortable and a warm place to stay then Crandell Hotel is fine. Our room at first looked small but you soon realise that its good. Just a short walk down the road to find a good choice of where to get breakfast or an evening meal. If you are into self catering then there did seem to be limited availability. Weuld certainly stay at Crandell again.

Room Tip: Closer the Office if you want WiFi

The rooms at Crandall Mountain Lodge are pretty small, the one queen bed fills up the space (we stayed in room 8). There is a refrigerator in the room, and a TV too, but the TV only picks up two Canadian news channels, so it is only worth turning on to catch the weather report. The manager at Crandall is quite friendly and helpful too, plus they have a tray of homebaked Crandall cookies in the office. The location is ideal, right in the town of Waterton. When we finished the Carthew-Alderson hike, we were able to easily walk right back to our room.

Noise travels easily between the walls of the room, there was one night that our neighbors carried on a boisterous conversation late into the night. I found that the hot water in the shower in our room was scalding hot, even when turned as far toward the cold setting as possible. Oddly enough, although someone came in each day to make up the bed, they ignored the used glasses that we left out on the table (we had used them to hold yogurt, so they were clearly dirty, yet they were not replaced)

We stayed in a double room and we found it to be very pleasant. Someone else commented that it was outdated and like staying in grandma's house. Well I thought that actually made it quaint and appealing, with quilts and that cosy feeling. The room was quite small but big enough to do it's job. We found it to be very clean. It was in a great location in a lovely town

We had never been to Waterton before. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Crandell Mountain Lodge. We visited at the end of the season. (Sept. 29/30th 2012) We stayed in room #3. It had a double (full) size bed and a twin bed. There was a little dining table, a TV (we never used), fire place, tiny kitchen (with pots, pans, utensils, cups, bowls, plates, coffee maker, counter top stove, fridge and microwave), and plenty of coziness. It was a small room compared to hotel chains, but it was great for our family of four. We brought a blow up mattress for our son. There was only a shower which we didn't mind. The kids liked it! My only complaint was the uncomfortable beds. Bring a laptop and DVDs to watch. They do have wifi, but it's slow and limited (monitored).
I'd stay at Crandell Mountain Lodge again.

Room Tip: Get a room on the top floor as you can hear people walking around at night if you're on the bott...

This was our final accomadation at the end of our 5 week amazing holiday in Canada. All other lodges, cabins, hotels etc were superb. We were in a 2 bed kitchenette room which was extemely cramped, dark and much in need of refurbishment. There was an outsized fridge in what was such a tiny kitchen that only one of us could fit in (we are both slim! ). It would have made more sense to have a smaller fridge and more work- top space. The electics are very outdated, quite a challenge working out how to turn various lights on ! The carpet was heavily stained and grubby.
However, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the lodge is pleasantly located on the edge of this tiny town. All accomadation is withing walking distance of town facilities.
As another traveller commented , the stunning scenery, amazing wild-life, abundant wild flowers etc, more than compensate for this run- down lodge. As we were blessed with idyllic weather, we were fortunate not to need to be in our room very much.

Room Tip: Choose the newly furbished Bear's Den if you need to saty at this lodge.

Just got home from a weekend at the crandell. Staff is very very nice and accommodating , really liked the fresh baked cookies! The room was ok. Have to agree that it needs updating. Housekeeping was the biggest issue. Bathtub was filthy and the ant and mouse traps put me off a bit. I would imagine its hard to get decent housekeeping staff in the park. I think all the hotels need an upgrade including the prince of wales. Scenery makes up for it all!

We enjoyed our stay, the room and bath were clean, the beds and pillows very comfortable. Close enough to walk to town but far enough away to avoid the noise. Overall the decor is somewhat dated, reminded me of grandma's house. Very pleasant tree covered patio with tables and chairs in front. Grab one of the awesome cookies in the lobby at check-in.
