Cottages at Woods End Landing in Bamfield
Reviewed 25 May 2014

Woods End Landing and Bamfield were a real find. We arrived via the Frances Barkley and enjoyed two nights in the Angler cottage. The adjacent pavilion provided the perfect spot to grill a meal while enjoying the view of the inlet, and we built a fire the firepit area, Our hosts Terry and Miche kindly invited us to join them to see a comedy show on the east side, and we felt privileged to join the community that evening. The night was topped off by a fireside chat with our hosts.

Thanks Miche and Terry for a memorable time...hopefully we'll meet again.

Woods End is a very beautiful and serene place. Our hosts Terry and Miche were so very friendly and accommodating. The accommodations were very comfortable for a family of 4 and we look forward to another visit soon. Perfect place to see what Bamfield is all about and to take in the georgeous scenery. Thanks so much to our wonderful hosts!

We arrived at Woods End in the evening by boat. Terry took all our luggage up to the cabin by ATV for us. We had a wonderful family weekend to walk, fish and rest. Very hospitable hosts and a very enjoyable time. We will definitely return!

We came to Bamfield for several nights and celebrated New Year's eve here. It was a wonderful experience. The cabins at Woods End Landing were comfortable and spacious. Terry and Miche were kind to us and made us feel very welcome. They even made a bonfire for us on New Year's eve and we had a memorable dinner under the stars. Brady's beach is beautiful, it's not far from Woods End and makes for a great walk. I would definitely come back!

We have mixed feelings about staying in the Angler Cabin for one night. Miche is personable (Terry rather taciturn) and Miche made every effort to accommodate our booking even setting up a dinner for us but was grudging when we asked for more towels. Getting across the bay was problematic as cell phones don't work in Bamfield and we had to let Miche know when we got to the dock so she could pick us up. After waiting a while it ended up that a very nice gentleman took one of us across in his zodiac so I could find Miche. The place is charming but needs work. Definitely qualifies for the label "rustic". It was clean and the beds were comfortable but only one burner worked on the stove. With everyone sleeping in the living room, the kitchen was the only place to visit and the sound carried to those still sleeping. The gazebo was lovely and Terry and Miche were happy to have people use it freely so that was a plus. It is a very beautiful location but for the cost of the night I would expect more.

Thank you for your review. We learn invaluable insight from reviews and appreciate anyone who takes the time and effort to review us. We appreciate the feedback and work very hard to ensure we improve on our services based on every review.

You are correct in that there is no cell service in Bamfield. Guests must use the public pay phone at the 4-way stop in East Bamfield to let us know that they have arrived. We do our utmost to pickup guests at a timely manner by emailing/telling guests about the lack of cell service and the pay phone, by prearranging estimated-time-of-arrival, and by manning our telephone from one hour before until one hour after a guest's eta. Guests arriving earlier or later than this 2-hour time frame may find us off-property because supplies must be picked up at the other end of town, at the dock near the Coast Guard station.

We have replaced the stove in the Angler cottage and in the event that previous guests fail to report a problem, we have added checking stove burners to our cleaning checklist.

We have made available a basket of extra towels in the hallway closet so that guests need not ask.

The kitchen in the Angler is separated from the sleeping quarters by a door and hallway. There's not much more we can do to minimize sound between the two rooms.

We are happy to hear that you enjoyed using the covered deck and fire pit. Both are very popular with our guests.

We polled our Bamfield competitors and have confirmed that our rate for 4 persons, 4 double beds, for a unit of equal size, in July, is in-line with our competition. (Bamfield's remoteness and water-access-only characteristic makes doing business much more expensive than a similar business in an urban area, therefore we compared our prices only to other accommodation businesses in Bamfield.)

Again, thank you for your comments. Best regards.

Aside from its storybook beauty, Bamfield is restful and sooo laid back. The people and the environment have a beauty and spiritual quality that I feel each time I return - that special something that means everything to me yet I can't properly describe it. One time or another, I guess I have stayed in all of Terry and Miche's funky cabins with truly comfortable foam beds, movies and eclectic book collections for the rainy days. I like that Terry and Miche' look after me and know how to laugh with me yet leave me to my own ways - that feels good. I always look forward to the fishing but walking Brady's beach at sunset makes me feel privileged. I will always be back. Cheers.

Room Tip: The Angler is closest to the covered deck and fire pit.

Stayed for 2 nights in July in the Angler one bedroom cottage. Wildly overpriced for the quality of the accommodations. Beds are located in the living room and the other furniture is circa 1950s. No top sheets provided with beds. Only half of the burners work on the stove. Setting is beautiful but run down. Free use of rowboat is a nice touch. Service seemed grudging particularly pick up and drop off of luggage to the ferry. The Bamfield area is lovely but it would be better to stay elsewhere.

Thank you for your review. We take customer comments seriously and act upon them as soon as possible. Regarding your comment about the rate you paid, we polled our competitors and have confirmed that our rate for 4 persons, 4 double beds, in July, is in-line with other accommodations in Bamfield. We have updated our website to more clearly describe the layout of the Angler cottage so that future guests have a better understanding of what to expect. The beds in the Angler are made of logs and are bunk style. Their design makes using a top sheet/blanket/bedspread combination awkward therefore the beds are made up European style. The covers of the duvets provided are changed after every guest (and half way through stays of 7 days or more). For guests who wish to remake their beds in the style of their choosing, we now offer top sheets upon request. In the event that previous guests fail to report a problem, we have added checking stove burners to our cleaning checklist. I have spoken to on-site staff regarding luggage pick up and drop off. Again, thank you pointing out these issues. Best regards.
