“Fishing Trip to Powell River”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

Just got back from a 4 night stay at the Beach Gardens. I've stayed there a number of times over the years for our salmon fishing trips. As usual the views from the top floor of the new section are gorgeous. The new rooms are great and the staff were very helpful. With the marina right out front, this the place top stay if you're thinking of doing some fishing in the area. Totally enjoyed the stay.

Room Tip: Top floor of the new section gets you the best ocean view.

The resort has a great location. My room had a lovely view of the water and marina, however the room itself was dingy and dated. Some Lights didn't work and wifi was sketchy.
Staff were OK but abrupt, I prefer friendly, patient staff. I only stayed one night and as this is a resort, they may hope that the place will grow on you after a couple of days.

This is one of those drive by and not enticing looking hotels. It was another hidden out of the way to road travellers but to boaters a common stop over.
This location has so much potential with the attention to maintenance which the grounds are lacking. The Beach front rooms makes it well worth the stay. Rooms are relatively nice, recently upgraded. It's the view that makes this place - the front end staff are not friendly but once your past them the location is really nice and very quiet. If you can look past the initial view and front end your set for a quite relaxing stay. The cleaning staff are very friendly. All in all - the view makes this location.

Million dollar view, too bad about the complicated t.v.remote. Management needs to attend to some fundamentals about running a resort. You can't have unsmiling staff at check in. You can't have limited hours for staff...8pm? You must have food available to guests in the morning, otherwise you're a motel. Further you must have a simpler way to turn on the t.v.'s.

We stayed in the new building as this was supposed to be the best part of the resort. The room was large with two queen beds and the beds where comfy however, it was disappointing to see that there was no mini-fridge or micro wave in the rooms and as there is no breakfast availability on the premises - this was especially inconvenient as most restaurants etc where closed for Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The pool was great for the kids however no towels available other than the ones in your room which basically resulted in a towel shortage as the Hotel was full. Avoid at all cost the Restaurant as we found the food and the service to be terrible to say the least (3 hrs for a meal??) the excuse was shortage of staff however it was Easter and the hotel was completely PRE-BOOKED to capacity weeks in advance so they knew it would be busy (shows lack of planning).
Rooms were cleaned daily and we found cleaning staff to be very friendly even though they had their work cut out for them!

Very modern, sleek rooms and well priced for what you get. Easy 3 block walk to the beach and restaurants are about ½ mile away on A1A. Nice pool area with pool towels provided, different seating areas in sun and shade scattered around the property. Room had small kitchenette and comfortable bed for $129. Our friends got a full studio apt with king bed for $149. There is now an on-site office for check in from 8 am to 8 pm. The desk staff are friendly and accommodating. I know others have complained about the lack of sound proofing, and we noticed some people talking and you could hear the beeps of the other'room's microwave. We set the AC unit to continuous fan and the white noise from the AC unit drowned out any outside noise. The room was very light inside at night even with the lights off, in case anyone has an issue with needing a dark room.

This is an excellent location if you're wanting to explore the Powell River area for a few days. The rooms all have balconies with a million dollar view over the marina and Malaspina Strait. The fitted bedspreads are somewhat reminiscent of a time gone by, however the rooms are tastefully decorated making for a pleasant environment. The balcony furniture was somewhat worn looking but as this was early season it may be that they had not had a chance to clean these up.The grounds are well maintained and there is a south facing beach area. There are coffee makers in the rooms but with no breakfast facilities at the resort it would be nice if the rooms had mini fridges for those who might want to have some fruit and real milk in their morning coffee. Westview, only a few minutes away, has a nice beach park, and a good selection of shops, restaurants and amenities. For those wanting some exercise there is a wonderful seawalk leading south out of the town. Great for a morning run. At low tide you can walk all along the beach past Grief Point back to the hotel. Much nicer than along the road, The surrounding area is beautiful with spectacular scenery. There are rivers, lakes and hiking trails. You will find lots to do. Drive north to Lund. Take a side trip to Oekeover Inlet, a long water reach out of Desolation Sound with a backdrop of towering mountain peaks. Stop at Gibsons Beach and spend a few peaceful hours reading a book on a rocky beach. No crowds here! Saltry Bay Provincial Park to the south has another pleasant beach overlooking Jervis Inlet.

Room Tip: We stayed in the newly renovated building and all rooms have great view
