“Fantastic”

Loved it. Stunning location, super peaceful. We saw bald eagles and seals from their dock.
Well built spacious cabins, very private and fully equipped. Large decks where you can sit high amongst the trees. Very helpful owner. I forgot to ask for a crib when I reserved but she was very quick to get me one when I asked for it upon our arrival, and even offered a high chair. She also allowed me to use their laundry room free of charge.
I was sad to leave and I don't often feel this way about hotels and resorts. Go there, you will not regret it.

Your positive feedback is much appreciated. Running and managing a family run business is a team effort with all our personal. Thank you for taking this time to let us know of how much you enjoyed your stay with us. It gives us all the more reason to strive to be better. We love to see our guests enjoy the natural beauty of our area and place , the very reason why we moved here to build the resort almost twenty years ago. We hope to welcome you and your family back, in the future.

My husband and I are just back from a fabulous 3 night stay at the beautiful Desolation Resort. Situated in a breathtaking location with stunning views, these are comfortable well maintained cabins right on the water.

Josephine the owner was a fantastic, welcoming host and nothing was too much trouble ... From arranging a table at the nearby Laughing Oyster restaurant (highly recommended), to booking a water taxi to Savary Island (a must do) and recommending a hiking trail close by on part of the Sunshine Coast trail, she was a pleasure to deal with.

I almost don't want to tell people about this place - we really both can't wait to come back! The cabins were well equipped with everything you would need to self cater, including BBQ and some were pet friendly. Kayaks and life jackets were available for guests to use and we spotted seals and plenty of other wildlife on our trip.

Highly recommended for a weekend or summer getaway.

* Cabins 8 and 9 have the best views but don't take pets.

** Try stopping at Skookumchuck Provincial Park on the way there or back if you get your ferry timings right ... A great easy hour's walk each way to view the narrows makes a good pit stop.

Lucky enough to grab the Groupon to this fab resort. Rustic, beautiful, so nice! We got the 2 bedroom because it was only $20 more, we stayed in "4-b" (or "4-2"), which had a very nice view, and the bedrooms were separated by the living/dining/kitchen. Each bedroom also had it's own FULL bathroom, so it would be perfect even for 2 couples... private! The only thing I didn't like was that on the deck, you could easily see into "4-a"'s living area... even if you were trying to avoid it, it always made me feel awkward anyway. It's also situated right across from the kayak/canoe area, which may get noisy during the more busy months. I didn't mind at all, though.

BBQ's are SO SWEET. It's so nice to be able to cook great meals for yourself even while away. Such a nice backdrop to cook to! They also leave buckets with sand/water for oysters if you grab some from the beach, as well as buckets for the shells so that they may be put back on the beach where they belong.

Kayaks - we took them out twice. First time we paddled to the beach across the water & hung out there for awhile, taking pictures of the beautiful Arbutus trees that make the landscape appear almost tropical. Reallllly suggest it, it was tranquil, sunny, private, and beautiful. We even lit a small fire to sit by when it got windy.. was very romantic.

WARNING: I'm not sure why, but there is no warning for the potentially rough water. The second time we went out, it was VERY choppy, to the point that my boyfriend almost capsized. It was very scary, and hard to paddle back against the strong current. How to avoid this may be common sense to seasoned kayakers, but we are new to it & didn't think it looked as rough as it was. There should be some kind of sign warning of rough waters, maybe some kind of guide as to when NOT to go out, especially for beginners.

One gripe - having to do your own dishes/put them away at the end of the stay, or be charged $35. I understand MAYBE having to load the dishwasher, but this is a resort.... at least the "putting away" should be taken care of for you, by housekeeping

All-in-all, fabulous trip. The only thing I'd suggest (that we didn't do) is to grab your groceries in Powell River before you arrive. Once you get there, you don't want to leave much! Although the bakery in Lund is ace!

If you're trying to decide whether or not to go..... GO. It's great.

Like early explorers who once named this area, we found this great place by chance. Unlike those first sailors, who surely found themselves struggling to escape the confines of the seemingly endless waterways, we could have stayed forever.

Being late march, we found these cottages quiet, charming and cozy. The cedar cabins have a classic west coast charm and are nicely appointed with all you could need. We were welcomed warmly by our hostess and she happily answered our questions regarding the area and its attractions.

We had full access to the sturdy private dock not to mention the complimentary kayaks and canoes. Off we went to explore the inlet by canoe. The waters like glass, the shorlines dramatic and interesting. An oyster lovers paradise, the inlet teams with marine life of many kinds and endless time can be spent exploring, without paddling any great distance. There seems to be petroglyphs(early inhabitant paintings) painted on the cliffs located across the inlet from your cabin?

I would highly recommend staying here. We were very impressed. Great value, great service, great time.

Things worth doing nearby include, visiting the town of Lund with its warm people, pretty marina and great food. The locals are awesome. Hike a section of the Sunshine coast trail, a truley amazing veiw of Savary island awaits you on route. Vistit Savary island with its amazing beaches and lovely people.

Room Tip: I dont think theres a bad room in the entire resort.

Spent 2 nights here over Thanksgiving weekend. I was blown away by the resort. Our cabin was immaculate, fully stocked, and quite large. The best feature of this resort is its location and proximity to the ocean (Okeover Inlet). Cabin 5 had a huge wrap around deck. It was so peaceful sipping coffee in the morning and staring out at the water. Also, would strongly recommend getting one of the cabins with a private hot tub so you can enjoy a relaxing soak complete with ocean view. Canoe/kayak rentals are free so we took the canoe out for the afternoon. It was so relaxing and it really made our trip. I will absolutely head back to Desolation Resort again. However, I would only pay off season prices unless I was splitting the cabin with other couples. This resort will suit you if you are looking to relax, spend time outdoors, and read a book.

Room Tip: All the cabins have amazing ocean views. Cabin 5 was huge. Great view, huge wrap around deck and a p...

Well, we were lucky enough to score a Living Social coupon for this Resort. It is about 3 KM outside the tiny Village of Lund. RIght at Mile 0 on Highway 101. You MUST go to this little Village, it is spectacular.

We ended up with an upgraded cabin due to some issues and the upgrade included a HOT TUB!! The "cabin" which was so much more than that, was about a 3 minute walk to the water. Fresh Oysters, muscles and fresh air ...Love. Josephine was awesome with questions and directions. They provided a TV/DVD player free of charge...yes free...I know, that word doesn't exist anymore but here it is!! They also had DVD's in the main cabin for use as needed. The cabins are fully stocked with Kitchen utensils and cookware, a BBQ and dishliquid. The only thing missing in the entire cabin was a hair dryer!

House robes, plush blankets, soft rugs, I cannot say enough about this resport. We will for sure be back in the summer to really enjoy the area.

It was so quiet, I forget what silence is like living in the city.

The only downfall is it is quite the day trip. Be prepared for two BC ferry rides, that means two fares. I recommend getting a BC experience card, it saves you money. But over all the travel was beautiful, not rushed, and quite nice.
