Oceanfront Suites at Cowichan Bay
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Cowichan Bay
Reviewed 23 July 2012

We recently stayed at the Oceanfront Suites and were very impressed. Firstly, in the lobby was a large glass dispenser filled with iced water and lemon/lime slices - a very nice touch on the very hot day that we checked in there. The room was very clean and nicely renovated with laminate flooring (hooray! finally a room with no carpets!). The room split into two when you walked in - to the left was the kitchen and dining room area, and to the right was the bedroom. Both had tv's and sliding glass doors. We stayed on the 5th floor and the view of the marina was spectacular. The Suites are in a great location in relation to all the little shops and cafes - we spent the afternoon and the next morning shopping and checking out the sights. In particular, we ate at the Rock Cod Cafe for dinner: http://www.rockcodcafe.com/ which we discovered had recently been featured on the Food Network's "You Gotta Eat Here!"; and had ice-cream at Morning Mist Ice Cream (locally made, I understand).
There was no air-conditioner in our room and although we were worried at first (it was a REALLY hot day), we opened up our patio doors and the ocean breeze cooled off our room in no time. One other thing really made my husband and I chuckle - the bathroom had an unusually high toilet, and when we sat on it, our legs actually dangled! I've never had that happen before and I consider myself an average height at 5'6"!
Other than that, we would definitely recommend this area with it's vineyards and Oceanfront Suites in Cowichan Bay a nice little place to visit.

Reception staff were friendly and professional. Renovations must have just been completed as we saw signs apologizing for the inconvenience but did not see any signs of construction. The room (huge king bed, living/dining room with kitchen) we were assigned, was on the third floor facing the bay (I believe all the rooms face the bay). Yes, the pub and bar next door is noisy (noise travels fairly well in this quiet community) and the bathroom fans are loud (in our room and in the rooms next to ours) but when these places/things are silent, it's very peaceful.

The hotel restaurant was the best. Crab cakes benny and seafood salad. Best meal on this long weekend!

stayed here while visiting family nearby. Perhaps they are not used to people preparing their own meals in their suites but as we were there for 2 weeks we wanted to reduce the amount of restaurant meals. The kitchens were not set up for a family of 4 and were missing alot of necessary supplies to prepare and eat meals. After speaking to the front desk people they asked me to put together a list of what we needed and they would provide, which they did. :0)
The rooms are older but comfortable they had just refurbished the mattress in the bedroom and provided a new sofabed in the living room. Many stains on the carpets, ceiling and chairs from former guests. This hotel has gone through many different owners over the last few years. As its the only spot in town people go there, but It has the potential to be a wonderful hotel but needs to have some money spent on it to update and paint and refurbish the entire hotel. Tip for travellers--very loud on week-ends as its beside a bar and many wedding receptions are there as well.

The Terain Restaurant at the Oceanfront Suites is one of the best kept secrets in Cowichan Bay. It has recently changed management and is now serving very good food. The servers are some of the best, specially Sherri, who makes you eating experience very special. The atmosphere is quite and friendly and the view from the top of the hotel is a panoramic vista of the bay. Altogether and most do if you are ever in this part of the island

If you want to get a professional mani/pedi done do not go to the ocean glo! Less than 24 hours to my ceremony myself(the bride) and the bridesmaids went for what we thought would be a nice relaxing spa visit. Turned out to be a waste of 2.5 hours and left with what a 5 year old could have done better. Truely a disappointment. Not only my party left unhappy but did a couple of my out of town guests staying at the hotel. The hotel itself is wonderful and they did a fantastic job accommodating my guests.

My wife and I stayed at the Oceanfront Suites for an overnighter the last week in March as had a function in nearby Cobble Hill to attend. Unfortunately we were only at the hotel for a few hours but were most impressed and would definately stay there again. Might even make a point of staying over as there appears to be so much to see in the area. The restaurants alone that border the hotel seemed quite intriguing. What impressed us with the hotel was the rate <$129 plus tax> for a full one-bedroom suite that overlooked the marina and inlet. We have stayed in many 'suite hotels' over the years and this one is a REAL suite. Lots of room, immaculately clean, and a super view. We also had breakfast in the gorgeous restaurant and were impressed with that as well! Will return if we can for sure!

Room Tip: Think they all front the inlet!
