I'm not sure I'd drive from Victoria just to see this museum, but if you're in Cow Bay you have to visit it. Excellent exhibits of the boating history of the area - boats, engines, gear. I'd like more posters with details of the history of the area, but the ones on the walls are informative. Admission by donation, and your visit can take from 20 minutes to two hours. (If you're really interested in boating of the past.)

very interesting. I built boats in early 1970's in boat harbour, Vancouver island B.C. was neighbours with the old pirate Mr. Kendall, for anyone that might know the history of boat harbour and brother 12, story, we lived there for 20 years actually growing up there and even helping Ken Kendall make cannons in his foundry there, and many other items, ashtrays, and other foundry items ordered custom made, for businesses' in Nanaimo back then, for many years I had a 42 foot troller that I sold in 1979, and followed its owners and it was kept down at a marina near this boat society site, it is now fishing out of eureka California. I added this so that you could see why I enjoyed the wooden boat society visit. Cowichan bay is a very cute little place a nice spot to spend an afternoon, and visit all the spot along the water. enjoy !!

Something about the artistry and history makes this little place a very interesting visit. There are some impressive wooden models of various boats including pirate ships and fishing vessels, and when we visited a beautiful full-size wooden dinghy was outside. If in Cowichan Bay it is worth a quick tour.

So enjoyed this after sailing all day! Enjoyed a tour of the maritime center as well! If you are in the area this is well worth a stop
