“Motorcycle Riders find great Motel on tour to Barkerville, BC”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

We are a motorcycle group (Okanagan Motorcycle Riders Association) with members that went on a ride to Barkerville this July 2014.

Proprietors Dianne and Harold gave excellent and personal care to our group and took extrs measures to make our stay welcoming and comfortable. Some of these added touches were the wood bike-stand plates for our bikes and the yummy greeting with home-made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies which were delightfully made for us every day. Upgrades have been made and although there is no phone service, you are able to connect to WiFi and they have a great selection of DVDs to watch at no cost.

Harold has a set up on site where he makes great meals which were excellent and quick.

A great little place to stay in Wells when visiting the historic BARKERVILLE.

Room Tip: All our members were satisfied with the rooms.

We stayed there before going the Bowron circuit and stopped there again before returning. I have to mention the fact that Diane, the owner, really went the extra mile to solve a car key trouble that we had, and with a few phone calls saved us a great deal of time and money. Super kind with kids, always trying to make sure that you've got everything you need, Diane is the perfect host!
And I have to mention Harry's fish and chips. If there was only that in the region, it would be worth a detour! Highly recommended place!

Sure I've stayed here before, but the thing that strikes me about this place is the owner's dedication to improvement... Its always good, but its always improving with each visit.

This last trip featured new bath tub and sink. The movie selection is always growing and the delicious cookies are as good as ever. I'm a big fan!

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms are more secluded, private and quiet.

This is a basic motel, don't expect pools, fitness centres, fancy plumbing, etc. But it makes up for it with a large TV and DVD player, with an enormous selection of DVDs to borrow (free) from the office - and great home-made cookies at the office too. The room is of adequate size with a table provided. the need for that becomes apparent when you start looking for a place to eat breakfast in the town (The only all-day restaurant nearby was closed for renovations!). You might want to buy provisions the day before. The fish and chips place recommended on TripAdvisor was closed the day we were there, so we ate at Bear's Claw across the street, a good experience. The small town of Wells is surrounded by beautiful mountains, with snow on them even in June.

Just before we reached the town, we saw a bear sitting beside the road. Although we did not stop, we noticed a car behind us stop - we hope that those people did not act as if they were in Disneyland; Wells is in the real Cariboo wilderness, with all that entails.

My stay was excellent. Diane was so friendly from the day we arrived and helped us with anything we needed. She provided fresh baked cookies daily and clean bowls and spoons for us to have a breakfast with. She even provided my 3rd night free after my friend couldn't make it to join me (we were going to split). The chip truck here, Big H is so delicious too! Wifi available, while not the best that is the nature of being in this area! Stay here! Great price, great stay. To top it off, there were beautiful birds living right outside our room on the outdoor lights and there was beautiful scenery across the road!

I needed a place to stay in Wells while I took a 5 day course in Barkerville- The Hubs was great.
Diane is kind and helpful and bakes cookies everyday for the guests and Big H runs a fish and chips shop on site.

Spent 2 great days at the Barkerville Historic Site, and stayed at a fantastic Motel in Wells, which was an easy 5 minute drive to Barkerville. The hosts Dianne & Harald were most accomadating and made sure our stay was perfect. From Diannes fabulous home made cookies, tartar sauce & Prawn Dip to Harald's awesome Halibut & Prawns, there is no better. The room was super clean and very comfortable and made for an excellent stay. Will definitely stay here again and recommend anybody travelling this way should stay here.
