“Cheap, clean, comfortable, convenient, the idea place to stay if you are visiting Wells or Barkerville”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

I booked this motel with the purpose of visiting Barkerville over a three day period. We should have allowed four! It was cheaper than the accommodation in or nearer Barkerville.

The Hubs was clean, basic but comfortable in a great location around 6-7 km, around 5-6 minutes drive from Barkerville.

There is a "fish and chips" outlet on-site if you want to make use of it. On the opposite side of the road you have the Bear Paw restaurant which serves superb cooked lunch and evening meals. I recommend eating at the Bear Paw restaurant.

We arrived late having driven all day from Dawson Creek. The woman looking after the office was really friendly with lots of helpful hints on what to see and where to go. The on-site office was small but adequate and there fresh-baked choc chip cookies every morning if you wanted them, a nice touch!

The room we had was clean and well equipped with a fridge, a large flat screen TV and DVD player, there were only two TV channels that could be obtained. However there were a huge stock of DVD's to borrow free of charge in the motel on-site office. There is a nice large gravel parking lot out the front where you can usually park you vehicle and if not a short distance away if someone has not parked their vehicle particularly well which we found on one of the three days we were there.

If you have the time its worth taking in a performance at the Wells Sunset theatre which is 10 minutes walk from the motel. To see what's being performed check out the following website: http://sunset-theatre.com/

The Hubs is a clean, comfortable motel in a great location near Barkerville and surrounding lakes and trails. Halibut and chips from the on-site location were an unusual treat! The adjacent Bear Paw restaurant serves superb cooked evening meals, and the Wells Hotel is the place to go for breakfast. Miles of empty road for the bike or jog or walk.

Booked this from England having heard that the Bowron Lake Lodge was run by a madman (i'm in the business myself in France and if you annoy the customers...)
Anyway, we arrived late having driven all day from Vancouver for the Bowron Lakes circuit (what a blast!) we were accommodated nicely, had a meal in the local pub which was a proper pub with real people, food, good beer and a pool table!)
Diane was really friendly - a total contradiction to the normal welcome in 'motels' and the fresh-baked choc chip cookies in the morning were a treat. sorry we couldnt have stayed there more than one night.
Wells and Barkerville right on hand, v quirky and individual places (wells settled by hippies when the city was wasting away after the goldrush had died down.

Room Tip: this aint no city. pick any room

My sister and I with spouse spent 2 days visiting Barkerville after 30 plus years to turnover our father's memorabilia to the museum. (He had been in the Barkerville show from 1962 to 1976) We chose the Hub for comfort. My sister and I are somewhat handicapped. Diane gave us 2 rooms on the ground floor for easy access and even provided a Reserved sign for our our car spot! She goes the extra mile to ensure you are comfortable. The rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped. Great place to stay if you are not a camper. The free fresh cookies every morning are a nice touch! Nice large gravel parking lot, adjacent fish & chips stall.

Room Tip: Call or let Diane any preferences .

We picked this hotel for the location. There were four of us so we'd booked a room with two beds, upon arrival we heard it was our lucky day. They had no rooms left with two beds, therefore gave us 2 separate rooms for the cost of the one room. My husband was having heartburn issues and Diane was kind enough to provide him with some baking soda for it. Wifi signal is rather weak and there are only 2 television channels, but they offer a great movie selection of DVD's to watch.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely if ever back in the area. Would I recommend this motel to others? Certainly! It's not the Ritz but cozy and clean!! And as the title says, the hospitality makes the stay worth while.
We had already eaten so did not get to experience Big H's Fish and Chips, but we noticed they stayed quite busy all the time, so that says something about it.

We are a motorcycle group (Okanagan Motorcycle Riders Association) with members that went on a ride to Barkerville this July 2014.

Proprietors Dianne and Harold gave excellent and personal care to our group and took extrs measures to make our stay welcoming and comfortable. Some of these added touches were the wood bike-stand plates for our bikes and the yummy greeting with home-made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies which were delightfully made for us every day. Upgrades have been made and although there is no phone service, you are able to connect to WiFi and they have a great selection of DVDs to watch at no cost.

Harold has a set up on site where he makes great meals which were excellent and quick.

A great little place to stay in Wells when visiting the historic BARKERVILLE.

Room Tip: All our members were satisfied with the rooms.

We stayed there before going the Bowron circuit and stopped there again before returning. I have to mention the fact that Diane, the owner, really went the extra mile to solve a car key trouble that we had, and with a few phone calls saved us a great deal of time and money. Super kind with kids, always trying to make sure that you've got everything you need, Diane is the perfect host!
And I have to mention Harry's fish and chips. If there was only that in the region, it would be worth a detour! Highly recommended place!
