I used to stay regularly at this motel with the previous owners (Swiss) and never had any probems. So, with very positive experiences behind us, we did not hesitate to book a room for two adults and two children during the Christmas holidays a few years ago. However, after a very negative experience there, we have never gone back. Although there were only three other rooms taken, we were given a basement suite room that had no view. When we asked to have a room on the top floor, the response from the ownership was "we usually put people with children in the lower rooms". When I answered that there were very few guests in the establishment and that we would be very quiet, he reluctantly agreed to move us, but secretly labeled us as "difficult clients", a label that would be detrimental to us later. When we later asked for extra blankets (it was cold in the room) , we were begrudgingly given some. Around 10 pm that night , the smoke detector from the room below us started to beep intermittently, enough to keep us all from sleeping. When we tried to contact the owner, there was no answer by phone or through the office. We tried to sleep but the smoke detector kept beeping with fewer and fewer rests inbetween. Finally, in the middle of the night, we were worried that there might really be a small fire starting below, so had to call 911 as the owner would not respond. We spoke with the police and they tried to contact the owner with no success either. The rest of the night was spent with pillows over our heads and no sleep. A miserable experience that was met with no sympathy from the owner the next day. In fact, he even said that he knew what kind of people we were from the beginning (when we asked to have a room with a view, as opposed to the lower suite that was rather dark with no view). We changed motels and had a positive experience at the other. Hopefully, the attitude of the White Caps Motel has changed given that he is in the service industry, but I will never go back to this motel.
