Owner description: These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

When I was planning our trip I kept reading about Butchart gardens. To be honest I thought the entry price was steep!
However my husband & I had a rental car & drove out there to arrive just on 3:30pm. By then all the tours had gone and only a handful of cars in the car park.
We had until 6pm to look around, enough time to see everything!
Wow! Amazing! Unbelievable!!
What more can I say!? An absolute treat! These gardens are really something special! Worth the trip & admission!
Go if you can! And if you can go in the afternoon you really can enjoy the pure serenity & visual spectacle this garden provides!

Everyone proclaims the beauty of the gardens in the Spring and early Summer, but I must tell you that they are just as spectacular in the early fall. The weather was pleasant and sunny. Begonias and dahlias were in bloom everywhere and in every possible color. I believe I took almost 200 photos in two hours!

The gardens and their structures were immaculate.

We ate at the small cafe and pleasantly surprised at the reasonable cost and quality of the food.

We stayed in Victoria and took a tour bus up (40 min drive). The bus drivers were great giving you tons of history of Victoria along the way. The Gardens are magnificent but the best time to visit is summer, when they have fireworks on Saturday night. Also the rose garden had pretty much died by the end of September as well. It cost us $110 for the two of us including admission. It was great but personally I think a little over priced.

If you love plants that are wonderfully showcased and pampered this attraction is a must see. For us it was a destination by way of flying to Seattle, renting a car and driving the peninsula on hwy 101 to quinault lake and on to Port Angeles. The ferry ushered us to the beautiful city of Victoria and the ever amaizing gardens. Can't come up with any concernig issues and can't wait to visit again.

The Butchart Gardens were an add on to the Rocky Mountaineer train Vancouver to Jasper. Rocky did the booking. The gardens should be on the 100 places to visit before you die. Motorcoach and Ferry from Vancouver to Vancouver island. Would have liked more than 3 hr at Butchart. If you can, RON there and spend a day and night.
