Owner description: These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

We went in 2012 to the Butchart Gardens Christmas Light Show around sunset and spent a very happy few hours wandering around and then having dinner in the restaurant. The light show is outstanding and the kids, 2 and 4 years old, were enchanted. The singers and musicians performing were also wonderful and the kids loved being so up close and personal with the performers (it's all very sweetly casual and intimate). We had dinner in the restaurant, which is very child friendly and family oriented, for a reasonable price. We warmed up and went back outside for another walk around. I've given this a full 5 star review even though they're almost a victim of their own success in that it was crowded even on the paths through the woods. However, we still didn't have to wait long for the carousel and were able to saunter along at our own pace.

Overall a highly recommended seasonal event and we'll go back this year. It is pricey, but you can see where the money is spent by the owners and they do a magnificent job.

Butchart Gardens are beautifully landscaped, with delightful views and vistas.

We took some visitors, one of whom decided that he was not interested in seeing a garden and would wait in the restaurant. After a short walk around, his wife went back to insist that he see these gardens. Four hours later, as he enjoyed and enthused, we were all wishing that he would put away his camera and let us go for lunch!

I have visited the gardens at all times of the year. No matter what the season they are beautiful and worth seeing.

I've gone to the gardens at different times of year and there is always something different and it has been worth the trip every time. It is a very large area so you have to be sure to get there early and leave a lot of time to see it all.

Worked there for nearly fifty years and the colours still amaze me! Met some wonderful people from all over the world and also met my husband there!

We were in Victoria on a hot August day. I expected to be tired and bored when we got to Butchart Gardens but I was wrong. The flowers are so beautiful and breath taking. The garden is well planned and well maintained. There are plenty of trees giving the much needed shade in places whre you may have to go up and down some steps. The entrance fee is a little stiff but it is worth it.
