Owner description: These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National Historic Site of Canada, started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

Butchart Gardens is worth the visit, however, pricey. It's one of those attractions that you just have to see once because the memories linger with you. The history of the family, mansion and grounds brings the garden to life. It's a special place and you can linger as long as you want.

“One of the best places in Victoria/Saanich area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

This is the most organized place you will ever visit. You will be directed where to drive your vehicle by pleasant people wearing white gloves to point the way. It’s also one of the most beautiful places, even if you aren’t a gardener. The gardens are quite stunning. You can stroll at an easy pace and feel your blood pressure dropping in these peaceful, relaxing gardens. Be prepared to spend a couple hours wandering around. We also ate lunch while here and purchased reasonably priced items in the gift shop.

“Beautiful spot with a lot going on”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

We went here on two separate occasions on a recent trip. The first night we went for dinner and had a lovely time - the staff were very accommodating and the food was quite good. We wandered the gardens after dark which was nice. The second night we went for the fireworks. We arrived early as it gets very busy and had a picnic and listened to a wonderful band. We viewed the flowers and then saw the fireworks. The fireworks are worth it. The gardens are gorgeous and smell amazing. The gardeners certainly know what they are doing. It is definitely worth spending an afternoon/evening here!

“Don't miss this treasure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

OK, it is packed with tourists, but still worth it every time -- and we've been there more than 25 times. We came on a Friday and couldn't believe who un-crowded it was. (Tour groups not here on Fridays?). We usually spend most of the day there since we like to each lunch at the Blue Poppy. The kitchen is simply the best and we have consistently liked their menu. This time we came back for dinner (pricy, but since it was our anniversary we indulged). We also were just very impressed by the folk music band. It seemed that most of the people in the audience were local people, too. After the concert we strolled around the night lit gardens once more. The night lights are special.

A little pricey but still well worth it. The sunken garden was my favourite. I have never seen a more well kept attraction.
