The food is excellent, the atmosphere is nice, but be careful where you sit. The restaurant is built on a pier, and in the evening, the glare from the sun off the water is brutal. It burns, so make sure to sit back a ways from the water's edge. A smaller size will do most people, especially for the jumbalaya.

The Blue's Bayou restaurant, one of very few Cajun style restaurants near Victoria, is built out over the waters of Brentwood Bay, affording a beautiful view of the bay, the boats on Saanich Inlet and, in the background, the Malahat Range. On a warm sunny day, dining on the large deck is a pleasure in itself. The menu is varied (and contains alligator if you're brave) and the food and service are both very good indeed, while the prices are not exceptionally high. A good place for a leisurely lunch or dinner.

For me, this place is all about making the most of the evening sun. Access is by stairs, I do not believe there is a ramp of any kind. The seating is on a dock, built over the water. One section is enclosed, the rest is open with umbrellas. The bathroom is outside, only 15 or 20 feet along the deck. So the waterfront features large.

The Cajun menu has just enough variety for everyone's taste. Special mention for the jambalaya, fried green tomatoes, cannelloni topped with prawns, and the cornbread is one of the best I have tasted. There is a small wine menu, and their version of sangria is not too sweet.

The staff are accommodating and friendly. The decor is Cajun kitsch. After dinner, take a stroll along the shoreline to the south, as far as the foot path takes you. Come here before or after a trip to Butchart Gardens, only five minutes away.

Served warm in a large Pyrex cup with five different bits of fresh fruit, and sweet cream, Blues Bayou takes bread pudding to a new level. This is the fourth time I've enjoyed it, sitting at the edge of the wharf by the marina.

Nothing really beats an enjoyable summer evening eating outside on the deck of Blue's Bayou. The ambiance, the food and the service is lovely. I enjoyed a lovely dish of baby back ribs along with a great salad and my other relatives greatly enjoyed their meals.
