I had a lovely stay at Chiltern Lodge in April. The staff are very friendly and know the local area very well - they were able to give us good advice on where to go and what to see during our stay. The host is a well travelled photographer and knows all of the hot spots for great shots. The interior is very well presented and extremely clean, with a lovely sunspace at the front of the house. Food is served at very reasonable hours and there is a good selection catering for veggies and non-veggies alike. For walkers/sightseers the location is especially good and within easy driving distance of a number of coastal walks and the historic town of Swanage (with it's marina, beachfront, steam railway link to Corfe Castle). The place is quiet at night and is a great getaway from the city for a weekend away.

We thouroughly enjoyed our stay at Chiltern lodge. The owners are the loveliest people we know. Food and accommodations were outstanding. We enthusiastically recommend Chiltern lodge to anyone wishing to have a pleasant and memorable holiday in the quiet and picturesque surroundings of Southern England.

The host of the lodge was extremely friendly and very welcoming. Am extremely impressed by how clean the lodge was! The hosts were very talkative and was VERY helpful. They drew me maps showing me how to get around the area and suggested various hotspots for cultural sightseeing. Anyone who is into travelling photography (or any photography) will benefit from the stay because the host is a photographer and has many of his beautiful pieces displayed around the lodge. Breakfast was great. The room was very tidy. The interior decor of the house was kept simple and neutral, making the whole atmosphere and environment very calm and peaceful, which made my stay extremely pleasant. Something a traveler needs! I extremely favoured the fact they asked us to take our shoes off because that meant they were very concerned with the tidyness and hygiene of the place. Not many B&B places do that. The couple who owns the lodge seem to have travelled around the world alot and was very knowledgable and cultural. I also enjoyed sitting out in the back garden where the host have designed and created a beautiful landscape-garden. I definately will go back again.

This is a bed and breakfast hotel in Worth Matravers with the great advantage of being within easy walking distance of the Square and Compass.

It was clean.

BUT

The owner greeted us with a request to take off our shoes. We were then informed that breakfast was served between 7.45 and 8.30am. He tried his best to sell us a "healthy" or uncooked breakfast.

The bedrooms was tiny with a very narrrow double bed although reasonably well equipped. The bathroom had no shower just a handset from the taps. There was no headroom to stand in the bath.

There was a notice with the toiletries in the bedroom to the effect that we were welcome to use the toiletries but please don't take them away! and blow me the folder for the local information was printed with the name of a hotel in Hong Kong!

We were staying for a wedding and checked in advance that it would be o.k. to come in late. However, the following morning we were reprimanded for leaving the front door unlocked. In fact we had come in early and it was the other couple staying that had left the door unlocked. I was then treated to a demonstration of how to lock the UPC door which as I was leaving within half an hour was pointless.

What the owner didn't tell us was that breakfast was cooked at 7.45 and then served when you came down. The butter, jam and milk were all out on the breakfast table during the day in readiness for the morning. As the weather was not too hot the butter had not turned! The cooked breakfast was adequate but we were not offered refills of coffee.

I would not go there again in spite of the convenient location.
