Was recommended to the Square and Compass but didn't realise they don't offer any food other than pies and pasties. Lovely ambience with roaring fire and good beer but don't go here if you are looking for a restaurant

In a world full of miserable clone bars and gastro pubs, the Square and Compass stands out! Don't ask for a menu, pie or pasty is the considered choice for the hungry walker, biker, or passing curious. A great choice of proper ales and home made cider (lager and wine if you must). The pub has a wonderful atmospheric feel and great local vibe, live music, a fossil museum, did I mention great walks along the coast (wear boots!). I've been here many times and never tire. It can get very busy, especially on a warm weekend, but if you tire of blandness then this is for you. Bob Voyage, Safari Salama, Safe Travels

I've been to this pub twice now and each time I have loved it. First time I was camping in Tom's Field a short walk away at Langton Matravers. Such a friendly pub and popular with all ages, and dogs! I visited again last weekend for a wedding celebration, the wedding party was happening at the cottage just opposite. We piled into the pub for drinks before the reception and enjoyed a fabulous couple of hours drinking and making merry. Local beers and ciders. A great stop off for walkers on the coastal path.

After walking Corfe and there abouts, stopped here. Glad we did. Dog on the roof was welcome. Hatches for ordering inside. Great vegetarian and meat pies. Cider cold and refreshing. Loved the rock tables outside too.

Well quirky is an understatement, the two hatches where you order is a start, along with chickens having free access to the beer/cider garden is another. Mind you the cider is good, three different ones, sweet, medium and dry. I asked about the dry and was told 'like licking carpet' and after a quick taste he was not wrong. Medium for the both of us. I did not eat but the meat pie did look good. Glorious views of the coast as well. Very good pub with a wide variety of clientele.
