“Best Deserts for miles”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2013

Just returned from 6 days in Aberfoyle and happened to come across this hotel returning from Stirling. We stopped to have lunch which was excellent. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. However the best thing was the desserts. They were to die for. I had sticky toffee pudding and it was the best I have ever had. I would return there tomorrow if I could. Fab place. Would highly recommend.

Not been to the L&U for a while, decided to visit Monday evening for an early dinner, food was again excellent, my wife always goes for the steak sizzler when we visit, rib eye and a fair size of steak. I had Thai mussels to start with the rib eye sizzler to follow, no complaints from us both.
Even at the earlier time of 6.00pm the restuarant was busy, suggest a call to book prior to visit.
On looking back we realised that our last visit was in excess of 18 months prior, won't be leaving
it so long for the next visit. enjoy.

Recent visit with elderly disabled Mum - very impressed by welcome/help and attention by staff. Menu wide and all food cooked really well (keen amateur - not easy to impress!) and enjoyed seasonal veg not being overcooked and knowing meat was from local producers.

Suggest availability of smaller portions for older folk and those who need to watch their waistlines is the only improvement.

My first visit to Lion and Unicorn was yesterday with friends and children. Food was beautiful all homemade and services was top class. Nothing too much trouble for staff. Will definitely be returning here soon!

Had a very good meal at the Lion and Unicorn. The staff were very welcoming and helpful right from when I booked until we paid and left. The menu is typical pub grub but done very well, however take note of the specials as they are made to a very good standard.

The atmosphere was very good, and thye gave us a table right next to an open fire which was really nice. Portion size very good and quality of ingredient seemed to be top notch. We'll definetly be back, and would reccomend it to anyone looking for a nice pub meal in friendly welcoming atmosphere.

Prices were very fair, and a good range of beers available. Overall definetly worth a visit.

Room Tip: We didn't stay only had dinner, but if the service and food anything to go by it should be a goo...

we had meal at lion and unicorn tonight and although food was reasonablly good and well pesented the prices stated on the menu are not the prices you pay, everything listed on the menu excludes vat which is added to your bill at the end. So a starter prices at £6.50 was actually £7.80 a main course at £12.95 ended up at £15.50 and it was the same with drinks. This is the first time I have experienced this in a restuarant and it does not state this on the menu. I've now checked the website and the same applies they show the menu and price but do not tell you they exclude VAT That must mean the prices of B&B stated on there website exclude Vat so be warned. (maybe thats why the place was somewhat empty for a saturday night once bitten etc)

If you find yourself out and about in Stirlingshire, and head out to Thornhill (15-20 minutes from Stirling) you will find The Lion and Unicorn.
It is a very nice pub/restaurant with a nice atmosphere, good food and decent price. Staff were friendly and orders arrived promptly. It's still basically pub food, but 'well done' pub food, and enjoyable.
