My wife and I eat at the Pilgrim Hotel regularly as we live nearby. The food is always very good. We rarely have even the slightest complaint. The only thing I would change is that the bar sell real ale.

We were very excited about staying here. The photos of the hotel and views looked amazing.

We paid extra for a superior room which turned out to be twin beds pushed together. It was like sleeping in single beds.

The service was average. The staff were all polite but lacked enthusiasm, not even acknowledging a 'good morning'!

The hotel has great potential but lacked a welcoming spark.

This was a last-minute business trip. I booked for two nights just a few days before leaving home, and got a very good rate for single occupancy of a double room. It's a lovely old building and my room was great with space to work and an en-suite with a bath and a shower. Breakfasts were good, and I ate in the restaurant in the evenings because it was so much easier than going out to look for somewhere else. This is called the Valley Restaurant, and to be fair I've reviewed it separately.

We booked this with a buy a gift vouchers. The room was basic but functional, clean and tidy. Should have stated non smoking as it did have a bit of a smell.
The bar was nice, and the very helpful Trevor ensured our stay wasn't a thirsty one! I can highly recommend The cocktails, especially the pilgrim!! Cheers!

Spent great night here, room and view was beautiful. Friendly welcome and wonderful food in restaurant, very creative chef. Highly recommended, wish we could have stayed longer. Loved the little touches (ie shortbread) in the room.

We spent 3 days at the hotel in September. Our double room was probably the largest we have ever stayed in, facing out at the back of the hotel and with beautiful views across the countryside. Room was well appointed, clean, good decor, huge bed, good size bathroom, courtesy tray with home made shortbread fresh each day. Only negative points about the room: unpleasant smell in the bathroom which, after thinking there must have been a recent water leak, we eventually identified as coming from the shower curtain. Also, small flat screen TV was rather lost in such a big room. The best thing about this hotel is the food, especially the bar and restaurant meals which were exceptional. Blue cheese souffle starter with pear, walnut and rocket salad was particularly delicious. At breakfast, we were disappointed that the only fruit on offer was tinned prunes and tinned grapefruit. Yogurts on offer tasted rather cheap, and the only pastry item on offer was croissants. The full English breakfast was however, very good. The staff were generally very friendly and accommodation. Over all a pleasant stay.

Stayed two nights. Traditional decor in keeping with the lovely building. Comfortable, spacious, clean room, opted for valley view. Handy for visiting the local area. Plenty of parking spaces. Left the car and took the bus (stop just across the road). Substantial breakfast set us up for the day. Enjoyed a tasty evening meal, excellent choice of restaurant or bar food. Cosy bar great place to finish the day. Staff very welcoming and friendly.
