We stayed here 2 nights on a deal which was very reasonably priced. The hotel food is very good and the soufflé starter is excellent. We ordered fish for breakfast but there was only one portion which my husband had. Again it was very good. We ate in the hotel both nights. We had room 8. The duvets on the bed were very small. I was told they were standard single but I have larger single on my bed at home. . The receptionist did bring me a king size and It was fine - perhaps a little too big! Thank you for the trouble. The room had a lovely view but the décor is quite dreary. All was clean except the skirting boards and dust kept floating off those. This was rectified after reported. There were some noisy folk up above us but guess that is not the fault of the hotel. If we stay again I would perhaps make more enquiries about the standard of room. We did enjoy our stay.

This is a small hotel, but that is an advantage. It is privately run. The staff are particularly helpful and obliging; no request seemed too much, whether it was a change of room on arrival for one which was quieter (I am a very light sleeper) or variation in menu at breakfast or dinner. It is clean and well-run and provides an excellent centre for the surrounding parts of Wales and England. We were staying as a part of a small group, and so perhaps made the bar area and restaurant a little livelier than normal (apologies if so!), and were there for three nights. The breakfasts were without exception very good. The menu for evening meals was very varied, with plenty to choose from. The food quality was generally good, with some menu items of better quality than others; the lamb rack was very good, as was the battered fish, but the rib-eye steak I had was 'chewy', though not sufficiently so to complain about!

As for touring around, the Mappa Mundi at Hereford Cathedral is a 'must'; the Wye Valley and Malvern Hills, beautiful. If you are inclined, a pre-booked tour of the Morgan car factory in Great Malvern is well worth it, if only to see the amount of woodwork involved! Be warned that at present driving in Hereford is a nightmare, at least it was for us; until a new new shopping complex is completed.

My wife and I booked a night through Mighty Deals at the Pilgrim Hotel. We really enjoyed our stay and all of the staff we came inti contact with, reception, bar and dining room were very friendly and efficient. Our room, at the rear, had stunning views across the valley to the distant hills, it was very spacious with a well appointed bathroom and a really comfortable bed. The quality of the food in the restaurant very excellent with a wide choice. Having spoken to Steve I will book our next visit directly with the hotel rather than going through one of the internet dealer, Mighty Deals, Groupon etc who take up to 30% of the price. More people who see these deals should contact the hotel at negotiate a deal with people like Steve.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms 4, 5 or 6

This is a great example of a small independent hotel doing almost all the right things to keep busy, have a buzzing bar and, critically, earning just enough to be able to just keep an investment programme going. It must be hard work for the owners but we enjoyed our two night break. A rear view room is pretty essential as the view and sunshine (if you're that lucky) are great - and there is little to commend either the front view of the hotel or from it! Room 6 was a little weird in layout but none the worse for that. The restaurant and bar were both good - value / quality / choice / service. The breakfast was particularly good value. The highlight for us was a walking route and map provided by the owner that took us for a full day's walk across wonderful countryside.

Room Tip: rear view room is best - room 6 has a dual aspect

Stayed for 3 nights in March - had a really good time - all staff very helpful and pleasant - food overall was very good, we ate here on two of the nights - only downside was the price of the beer!
Rooms were pleasant and well equipped - there was some noise from the road in the early morning as our rooms were on the front of the hotel, but not too much of an issue. However, the rear facing rooms have fantastic views across the valley (and no noise) but are a bit dearer.
The Hotel is nicely placed for touring the surrounding countryside - we visited Monmouth, Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury and Hereford itself. All in all, an enjoyable few days.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for rooms with a view!
