“Gorgeous Gite in a Quiet Setting”
Reviewed 14 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Booking this gite was, as has been stated in previous reviews, very easy. Emails were replied to in short order and the directions to it have to be the clearest and most accurate ever!
We were quite late arriving at the site. but this was no problem to Barbara, which removed much of the stress.
The gite is absolutely beautiful. The sitting area is large, cool & airy, with steps leading up to an equally spacious kitchen. The two bedrooms also have plenty of space and are both en-suite. The pool is shared with the owners and the smaller of the two gites, which is nice & friendly. There is an outside area with a gazebo & barbecue, where we ate every night. There are wee lizards in the walls & if you're quick, you'll spot them.
The site is situated near Aulnay, which has a brilliant food market on Sunday mornings, & two boulangeries. It is also well situated for visiting Cognac & the Marais-Poitivan (both around 40 mins away) and its about an hour form the coast. The Marais-Poitivan is definitely worth a visit - its a marshy area split up by waterways & you can either hire your own canoe/kayak or go on a guided tour in a traditional punt. Heavenly.
At night it is really peaceful.
If you are looking for a de-stressing experience, close interesting places to visit, I can't recommend this enough. We had never been to Poitou-Charente before and had wondered if there would be enough to do. The answer is a big yes.
We had a fantasitic holiday here and would thoroughly recommend it.

“iddyllic french cottage in beautiful countryside, extremely peaceful”
Reviewed 16 August 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Wanted my kids to experience the 'real france' so rented this gite for a fortnight. Was very easy to book, and subsequent email communications with the owner were quick and easy. the prices are similarly comparable with other gites, but I think this one has the edge on all others we found on the internet. We travelled down, making the mistake of crossing at Calais as its cheaper, but that meant too many hours driving, far better had I spent a few more bob on the the ferry crossing to St Malo or Cherbourg. We broke the travelling up by staying in a b&b just south of Calais both there and back, which did help.
Phoned the owner Barbara on the way down and she gave us excellent directions to the gite. We received a very warm welcome from Barbara and her husband Ian when we arrived.
The gite is beautiful, and had everything we needed. Its a stone cottage beautifully restored by the current owners. The only thing it didnt have was a fan and upon asking Barbara, one was instantly provided. The beautiful gardens were looked after by Ian, who is a lovely and very friendly man, and who always took the time to stop and have a joke with the kids.
The gite is one of three, le grand lezard obviously being the largest, then the owners coattge joins next door then the slightly smaller gite.
The pool was fantastic, 10metres long and just the right temperature for a lovely swim when the sun got too hot. The pool was kept very clean. This is shared with the occupiers of the other gite, but thats not a problem and it was good to socialise with the other family staying at the time.
Barbara couldnt do enough for you, you only had to ask, from advice on restaurants to directions etc...
The gite was set in the most beautiful french countryside ever, with acres and acres of sunflowers, corn or maize either side of the road. The only slight downside was that this gite was about an hour's drive from the coast, but had we gone for a gite near the coast it would have been far more expensive, and wouldnt have been like this one which was so gorgeous.
The gite is however very well located for all the inland attractions. There was also a great supermarket nearby, with very helpful staff. Also nearby was a weekend market in Aulnay with many stalls selling just about everything, well worth a visit.
I woudl recommend this gite to anyone, families, couples, or friends, for a very peaceful and beautiful location, with everything you need, especially a gorgeous swimming pool, great proprietors, and beautiful accomodation.
