We have stayed at Artlegarth on a few occasions now and on each return we never tire of the location and quiet. The hot tub is a splendid feature and the surrounding countryside provides opportunities for all types of walking from gentle strolls to vigorous hikes
Jennie and Neil are always very welcoming and greet us like old friends. They can never do too much for you and go out of their way to make your stay special.
This was our second stay in the Mallard Lodge which is located in an isolated secluded haven (Artlegarth) around 1.1 miles from Ravenstonedale. There were originally three well spaced cabins in the retreat, however during our stay the owners were building three new larger lodges. This did not disturb us however, work only continued during the day and we were out enjoying the local countryside and local amenities. There are plenty of things to do. You are basically in the Howgills if you like walking and the main lake district is a twenty minute drive away across the M6. There are three pubs with in a 1.5 mile distance from the lodge. The lodge is spacious and well equipped, ideal for a tranquil gate away. The lodge has an updated modern kitchen and three bedrooms, lounge, dining room and balcony with covered hot tub, which was fantastic on the quiet evenings. We were very lucky as none of the other lodges were occupied during our stay. We had the place to ourselves. Obviously with the new lodges there will be a few more visitors, but the layout and spaces between have been well designed for privacy.
The Mallard is our favourite lodge and we hope to return soon, we may try one of the new lodges. Well worth a visit / short or long break. Excellent for lazy days and wildlife spotting. The welcome is always fantastic and facilities are great (with homemade cake on arrival). A break from your busy working life. We will return....
A fabulous week away in a fantastic cabin. Myself husband three children and dog had a great holiday and we will come again. Thank you.
Stayed in 2 lodges with 11 of us for 1/2 term. Great place, 10 mins walk from nearest pub/village (although no shop). Isolated site with a real get away from it all feel.
Owners (Jennie) was really nice and helpful, they're having some new lodges built at moment so more people will be able to enjoy.
Cabins were great, wi-fi not so good but its being sorted with a direct satellite link in Nov 2017. Hot tubs proved v popular with kids and grandparents....
No hesitation in recommending to anyone.
We stayed for a weeks break at Artlegarth Lodges. Very peaceful and relaxing. The hot tub was nice at the end of an active day and to watch the wildlife or the night sky. Nice that you are left to it with no-one disturbing you but on tap should you need anything and Neil and Jennie are fab hosts. The lodges are in a remote setting with no local shops, we were glad someone wrote to take supplies with you as we needed them on arrival. 3 new lodges are being built and we would love to stay in them next time, original lodges need updating and modernising but comfortable and warm. Great we could take the dog We would definitely keep this in mind for another visit
We booked this lodge last minute and were not disappointed. The owners were very accommodating and quick to respond to queries. The lodge is located in a little bit of country heaven; just what I needed to recharge batteries. The lodge exceeded expectations; both clean and comfortable with everything we needed to feel at home. By the way there are no shops so take your food- we did, though we did wander to the Black Swan to purchase eggs; my husky dog liked this as a kind resident offered him some chicken. We watched red squirrels and bunnies from the doorstep and also a real treat was watching the sheep dogs round up the sheep while sipping coffee on the veranda. The hot tub was a highlight of the stay and much better enjoyed in the dark. We miss the sounds of the birds singing and our husky was huffed for a week after returning home as he loved watching the sheep (probably wanted to eat them). The walks nearby are versatile and if you want a drive out this is s perfect base; returning to peace after the trek. We will definitely visit here again and love that it is the only place I have visited where one can really switch off and enjoy rural living. Well worth a visit.
