Stayed here Friday to Monday in January and oh my what a beautiful place.
Great place for all the family and can honestly say great location, great walks, lovely scenery and out standing accommodation. Hot tub looking at the stars what more could you ask for.
Pubs and places to eat just a mile walk we had such fun finding them, got lost a few times but this just added to the fun. We all enjoyed it thoroughly but most of all the dogs first holiday amazing.
See in you in the summer time.
Thanks Neil & Jenny
Yes another chilled out stay at Lapwing.
We had the whole site to ourselves, which made it even more special.
Jill came over and gave both of us both a massage on Friday night which started the w/end off nicely, soooo nicely!! Thank you so much Jill. Consider yourself booked for next time!
Neil & jennie have had new kitchens fitted, which are lovely. Such an improvement!
Our dogs, Lilly & Alfie, the standard poodles, have enjoyed it so much, they were worn out for 2 days after.
Neil/Jennie, if you need anyone to try out the new cabins, we'll be happy to oblige. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge!!! Please, please, please ..... begging now!!! lol
Catch you soon
Clean, comfortable and relaxing. A place the whole family enjoyed! Could have done with a larger fridge and more tea towels as we were a family of 6. Light on the decking needed to be stronger for BBQ. Having said this the lodge was clean, warm and inviting. We all enjoyed the hot tub and the views. We will book again next year as the grandchildren have made us promise!!

The lodge was well-equipped, comfortable and warm - an ideal base for a relaxing stay in a peaceful setting. There were lots of choices of local walks in the beautiful open countryside. We enjoyed meals at the nearby pubs and local produce bought from the shops in Kirkby Stephen.
Me and my wife had a lovely stay with our family at the lapwing lodge its a very nice location and brilliant views from the lodge. The location is ideal because you have got the best of both national parks the lake district and the yorkshire dales and recommend to anyone the walk to cautley spout. Stephen kirkby is a lovely village for the essentials that you need and there is three lovely pubs within 5 minutes drive of the lodge the black swan, the kings head and the fat lamb. The hot tub is very nice, even on a cold night sitting out watching the stars. We would definitly return in the future.
Stayed in Lapwing Lodge with our 2 Standard Poodle's Lilly & Alfie.
First of all, we need to mention the cleaner's, what a fabulous job they do,the place was spotless!!!
If remote is what you're after then this is the place. For the walkers, there are loads of places to walk (miles and miles with pubs on the way - see in-cabin brochure), or you could just chill out on the site, as we did.
The cake on arrival was an added bonus along with a lovely card welcoming us.
There are only 3 cabins on the 7 acre site making this a truly secluded.
To say the dogs enjoyed themselves is an understatement!!! We were fortunate enough to be next door to people who didn't mind dogs being off lead, so they just played and chased each other around the lawn in front of the cabin (they'd already spent a week on holiday in a forest so they were easily worn out).
Unfortunately we didn't see the red squirrel until the last day (possibly a good job as Alfie likes chasing squirrels). What an amazing sight. Tip .... take some nuts, from the pet store, and put a trail along the floor. We also saw evidence of deer up by Mallard Lodge.
There was a fantastic thunder storm on the Tuesday night and, because of the overhang on the porch, we were able to sit on the porch watching it unfold.
Tip No.2. They offer massages etc at reasonable rates, please look on the website and book prior to arrival to avoid disappointment.
Only negatives, it would be good if the porch was secure to stop the dogs from wondering off. In hot weather you want to open the doors. This means you have to either shut the doors, when in hot tub or bathroom or try and barricade the steps with the porch furniture.
Secondly, I'm sure this is on the cards having read previous reviews. Kitchen needs a makeover, especially the cooker.
Overall, fantastic stay. Will definitely go again.
Booking was straight forward, getting there was easy, Neil was our contact and he was a really nice man, friendly and helpful (kindly posted back my mum's new dressing gown which she left which he really didn't have to). I came here with 4 of my sisters and my mum at the beginning of August to celebrate my mum's retirement The lodges were very nice and clean with beautiful views- the hot tub an added luxury. We went in it sunshine and rain! When the weather was nice we explored nearby (we wish we had found out some walks before we came as there are definitely good walks to do) and when it was not so nice outside we all enjoyed having a few bottles of wine watching DVDs (a good selection is available). Yes maybe the bunk beds aren't the best size for adults, luckily we are all quite short so it didn't bother us. We all felt we had a nice escape and were all relaxed when returning home. Would and have recommended this place!
