“never disappointed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2014

We have been to Franco's many, many times and we have never been disappointed in anything we have ordered. The food is superb and always cooked fresh and to order. All the staff are lovely and very attentive.

“Food Not Hot; Overall Poor”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

As one of the originals at LaLupa in Poole, I can remember with joy our visits there under the stewardship of Franco's boss Bruno.

We were taken to Franco's as guests; I wondered how Franco would compare to his original restaurant, where he learnt his trade.

Like another poster, when we entered, we were shown immediately to our table, we usually like to spend some time in the bar area, but being guests we complied. Most posters are happy with the friendliness of Franco's staff and we would concur with this opinion, but unfortunately the food lets it down.

On this particular night Franco himself was in the kitchen, when the food came out it was disappointing to say the least. The portions were on the stingy side and worse than that everyone's dishes were served up tepid and not hot. Again we were guests so refrained from complaining.

Overall Franco has a long way to go to match his old boss Bruno at LaLupa in Poole, where he stated some thirty years ago. A shame because the place does have the makings of a cosy restaurant, but obviously the main ingredient ie the food has a long way to go, before it is anywhere near the gold standard of LaLupa Poole, back in the 70/80's.

We don't want fancy décor or fancy seats and table clothes, just honest Italian fare, which in my opinion is becoming harder to get. Perhaps the originals who came over to England in the 70/80's need to go back to a small Italian village for a while to refresh themselves as to the cooking they presented when they first arrived in England all those years ago.

Perhaps I look back with 'Rose coloured glasses", but I don't think so, because my friends feel the same.

Another issue is with the 'house wine'; where have the Carafes of red or white gone, which were reasonably priced, good and complimented Italian food? The wine prices now make the meal price overall so expensive and in my opinion do not allow the party to flow.

As always, get the basics right and all will be well and we hope Franco's does just this!

“Saturday meal with friends”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2014

Francos is a small friendly Italian restaurant in Broadstone. We decided to try Francois as we had a magi card offering 20percent discount. We had a great evening with good food in an authentic Italian restaurant.
