“Simple lunchtime food, well done!”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

A warm welcome awaits you in this quirky cafe cum shop. Delicious tomato and Basil soup, lentil soup, followed by excellent omelette. Good tea, served in china pots and cups and saucers. Like stepping back in time. Very handy if you intend to visit National Trust property nearby, Thomas Bewicks birthplace. Lunch at Jiggery Pokery first, as the NT property only does tea and biscuits.

“A proper tea room”
Reviewed 14 July 2013

Friendly service, comfortable surroundings, great cakes - what's not to like?
To be fair I cannot comment on the main meals because I only ever go for the cake.

“Consistently good!”
Reviewed 20 April 2013

Taking more of a ‘tourist route’ from Gateshead to Corbridge and Hexham, we often travel the A695 through the small and picturesque towns and villages on the South side of the river Tyne. About half way between Prudhoe and Stocksfield lies Mickley Square, and our favourite teashop in the area; The Jiggery Pokery Shop.
There’s ample car parking just next to the shop and it’s an ideal resthouse for those visiting the nearby Cherryburn (birthplace of the celebrated Northumbrian artist Thomas Bewick). As well as their lovely homemade pies, sandwiches and wonderful selection of cakes, they have a very interesting stock of antiques and bric-a-brac to further tempt their customers.
We’ve been visiting this place for a number of years (two or three times a year) and have always enjoyed whatever we’ve chosen from the menu. The setting is rather quaint, with the ‘old stuff’ never far away, but it’s consistently very clean and the staff (usually the owners, I think) are very friendly and efficient.
The quality of the fare has never disappointed, and the tea and coffee satisfy even our picky tastes! Ten out of ten, in my judgement.
